Box Break Winnings: Some Sp's, Bowman's and UD Pennants

Ahhhh..... Another blog driven group break, another hoard of Dodger cards to add to my collection.

Last month I participated in Thorzul Will Rule's June break and snagged the Dodgers (Woo Hoo!). Boxes broken were 2005 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects, 2005 Upper Deck Past Time Pennants, and 2005 Upper Deck Reflections. Here is the booty.

I don't really know a lot about this modern wax stuff, so I won't go into details. What I do know is that the below two cards are from 2005 Upper Deck Reflections and the cards below are of some former Dodgers who had, let's say, mixed success with the Blue Crew. I still love Eric Gagne, but JD Drew can .... OK, I'm trying to gain my composure here.
Here is the reverse of the above two cards.
These are 2005 Upper Deck Past Time Pennants cards and feature a whole bunch of vintage Dodgers. Unfortunately, I didn't snag any autograph cards in the box break, but I happen to have a whole bunch of them already in my personal collection. Stay tuned over the next coming weeks and months as I put them up in this blog.
Here are the reverse of the above cars.
Here are bunch of 2005 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects Dodger cards of players who probably won't amount to much. Oh well, at least a couple of them are shiny.

Check Out the Argyle Contest

I thought I'd do some pimpin' for a great Dodger / Baseball card blog that I'm sure many of you are already aware of. It's a place called Plaschke Thy Sweater is Argyle (what a great blog name) and Greg is holding his first ever blog contest for readers and other bloggers alike. Go check it out here.

I've been considering putting together a contest of my own for some time- maybe in the next week? Due to a former life as a card dealer in my youth, and my lack of investment savvy when it came to unopened wax boxes from the late 80's to early 90's, I discovered that I have a bunch of junk unopened wax that isn't worth the space it takes up. (And when I mean a bunch, I'm not being facetious. I have a whole crap load.) Heck, I even have some great boxes that many of you would love to get your hands on. So, maybe I'll package up a bunch of stuff to give away to you fine folks. And, heck, if there is enough interest maybe I'll put together a 2nd and 3rd place prizes. Let me know what you think about it.

1953 Dodgers St. Patrick's Day Dinner Program

Items like this make me harken back to the good old days. Sure, O'Malley had his faults. One of which was a tightfisted wallet. Nevertheless, he treated the team like his family and, in the process, earned the respect of Southern California. Oh how I wish for those days.

Anyway, here is a really cool vintage program from St. Patrick's Day, 1953. If features a great "green shaded" photo of Walter O'Malley at the center. It comes directly from the the family of Robert Chew who was the personal pilot for O'Malley. I figure this was given out during his annual St. Patrick's Day party during Spring Training in Vero Beach.

Daily Conlon: 118 through 126

Here are the Daily Conlon card numbered 118 through 126, and it includes the remaining members of the 1927 New York Yankees.
