Stayin' Alive

(pic credit: Dodgers on tumblr)

Oh Boy!

Were you as nervous as I was?

I was at the edge of seat.  My palms were sweaty and my mind clouded by thoughts of an early season close.  Then, a flurry of home runs eased my soul.  My head quickly filled with paisley dreams and electric Kool Aide.  Suddenly, a song rang in my ears.
Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother,
You're stayin alive, stayin alive.
Feel the city breakin and everybody shakin,
And were stayin alive, stayin alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin alive, stayin alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin alive.
I was trip'n out like it was 1977, and I just can't stop dancing.

Go Dodgers!

Weekend Autograph Opportunities: Former Dodgers Pitcher Stan Williams

Here are this weekends autograph opportunities and events throughout the Southland. As always, be sure to check the Blue Heaven Calendar for other events (a link can always be found on the tab at the top of this page, just left of center), and always confirm with the establishment. Everything is subject to change.  Please email me with any tips about upcoming events in Southern California.  As the rest of the week progresses I'll update this post with other events (if there are any) as I become aware of them.  Also, I don't always list every event below, so be sure to check my Calendar.  I always try to favor free signing events over paying events.  Click on any pic to embiggen.

Dodger Players Provide Words of Encouragement on Twitter

We find out this afternoon if our season comes to an end or continues on.  It is Game 5, and the Dodgers find themselves down 3 games to 1.  As I've said before, this team has gone through so many pitfalls and climbed out, so there's no reason to believe they can't do it again.

To emphasize the point, a couple of Dodgers tweeted out words of encouragement.

Via AJ Ellis:

Jerry Hairston Jr. sends out a challenge.  Are you a real Dodger fan?

This is no time to abandon the ship.  This is a time to circle the wagons.

Have faith Dodger Blue.  It's time to BELIEVE!

I remain a huge fan of Raffy.  The above pic is of Rafael Furcal and Andre Ethier, via Jon SooHoo/LA Dodgers 2013.  See more pics from Jon here.  BTW, the the Dodgers are on the brink of elimination today.  Game 5 is at 1:07 PM.

  • Via Chris Olds at Beckett, they share some preview pics of the Topps Update set that's out today.  Check out the Puig and Ryu cards below.
"He's feeling a little something," Mattingly said. "I think we're seeing it at the plate. It looks for me a little bit back-sided. When guys can really hit, they're going to use that front side. It looks like he's kind of favoring, going to that back side. He says he's OK. We'll keep hanging in there with him. We'll see where we're at."
But, he expects to play this afternoon, per Laymance at MLB.com.
"When you see an executed pitch, like Ricky threw, hit out of the ballpark, it makes you know right away it was the wrong pitch call," Ellis said.
In other words, the Dodgers had created a new set of jerseys with the red numbers in anticipation of appearing in the 1951 World Series. But as we all know, Bobby Thomson and the Giants had something to say about that, and the Dodgers never got to appear in the ’51 Fall Classic. So they decided to use the number-clad jerseys as their standard home design the following year.
