A New Hyun-Jin Ryu Factory Set Variation Card

It has just come to my attention that there is a Hyun-Jin Ryu card that is brand new to me.

When Topps issued their retail factory set (commonly sold at places like Target and WalMart) they included a special 5-card pack of Rookie Variations.  They feature the 5 most popular players to have rookie cards in their Series 1 and Series 2 sets, and Hyun-Jin Ryu is included.  Along with Ryu are Manny Machado, Jurickson Profar, Shelby Miller and Jose Fernandez.

So, now we have 3 different Ryu Topps cards from the flagship set.  Take a look at all 3 below.  There is the short-printed factory set variation, the normal Ryu base card, and the short-printed Series 2 variation.  They are all numbered #661.

BTW, I'll have pics from the 2013 Topps Update set ready to share soon and it includes 3 additional new Ryu cards.   That's right Ryu fans, he will have 6 different Topps flagship rookie cards available to chase after.

2013 Leaf Metal Draft Baseball - 2013 Dodgers 1st Round Draft Pick Chris Anderson's First Card

Leaf recently released their newest Baseball card set and it focuses on young prospects within the Baseball system.  It is called 2013 Leaf Metal Draft Baseball, and it includes just one Dodger player.

Featured in his very first professional Baseball card is the Dodgers 2013 1st round draft pick (18th overall) Chris Anderson.  He is a hard throwing right-hander with a growing repertoire of secondary pitches.  In his first season of professional play he has been very impressive.  Below are his stats, via Baseball-Reference.

See a complete checklist from this set here.  Below is Anderson's first base card.

#BACA1 Chris Anderson

Chris even has an autographed card inserted into packs, and he is taking a mighty swing with the bat.

BTW, this set also includes a couple of Cubans who have yet to sign with a big league club, but are expected to be in Spring Training.  They are Alexander Guerrero and Jose Abreu.  Unfortunately, I have yet to see examples for either player.

Goldin Auctions : More Dodgers Memorabilia - Koufax Glove & Pants, Greg Maddux and Puig

Following up on Tuesday's post featuring some unique Dodgers correspondence with the MLBPA about Baseball desegregation, I now bring to you a bunch of different Dodgers' memorabilia items available at Goldin Auctions.

This is a 1959-60 game-used Sandy Koufax fielders glove.
Early in the 1960 season, former Brooklyn resident and die-hard Dodger fan Don Rossano and his father attended a game at the LA Coliseum as guests of their cousin, Dodgers infielder Bobby Aspromonte. While chatting in the dugout with Sandy Koufax, the lefty learned from Don’s dad that 14 year-old Don, now sitting up in the stands, was a left-handed pitcher as well. As his father got up to rejoin his son in the stands, Koufax held out his glove and said “here, give this to your son”. Don kept the glove for over 50 years and now we are proud to be able to offer this great piece of baseball history.

If you can't find a Koufax jersey to add to your collection, then maybe his pants might be up your alley.  Here is a 1964 game-used Sandy Koufax jersey pants.

Probably the best thing to happen during McCourt's reign was the signing of Greg Maddux.  I'm sure he had a huge impact on many young Dodger pitchers.  Featured below is a 2006 game-used jersey.

Are you a Yasiel Puig fanatic.  Well, how about a lot of 100 - 2013 Leaf NSCC exclusive 6 card Yasiel Puig redemption sets.

Blog Kiosk: 10/17/2013 - Dodgers Links - Adrian "Mickey" Gonzalez, Vin Scully and Don Mattingly on America's Team

Santa Barbara native Skip Schumaker grew up a Dodger fan, and he has a photo to prove.  In the above pic he stands with Orel Hershiser while holding up a boyhood photo signed by the Bulldog.  Pic via Jon SooHoo/LA Dodgers 2013.  See more pics of yesterday's game from Jon here.
“The Mickey Mouse ears, I was just having fun with the comment that was made earlier,” (Adrian) Gonzalez said. “Nothing against them or anything; it was just to have fun.”

Tim Brown at Yahoo has more choice quotes.
“He has those kinda big ears,” Jerry Hairston said.

Uh-huh. No. Don’t.

“He looks like him,” Hairston insisted. “He does. We were so glad when they called him Mickey Mouse. Now we all do.”
They also have the will of the people. All of them. Even the "Best Fans In Baseball," usually partisan for the Cardinals, are pulling for the Dodgers.

"I think if you look at it, now we've kind of become America's team because everyone wants to see a seventh game," Mattingly said. "Probably, even the fans in St. Louis would like to see a seventh game, so I figure that everybody's for us to win on Friday night."
  • From yesterday's pregame celebrations, here is Will Ferrell's player introductions.
