2015 Topps MLB Stickers - The Dodger Cards

I thought I'd take a brief break from my fawning over Heritage Baseball cards to focus Friday's attention on another release by Topps.  On Wednesday they put into stores their annual sticker set and below are pics of all the Dodger players found within it.  Go here to check out a complete checklist.

This is a kind of set that only appeals to the young.  Kids just love putting these on everything.  From their lunch pails to homework assignments, you can find these little collectibles splattered about everywhere.  But for the adult they are treated in a rather dismissive manner.  After all, who wants a little sticker when beautiful cardboard is available.  So, I can't imagine it's big business in America, but it sure is widely popular just about everywhere else.  Last I read, Panini generates over a billion in sales from their stickers worldwide, and during the last Word Cup fears of a shortage emerged when 300,000 packs were stolen by thieves in Brazil.  No worries, though, they made more than enough to satisfy the demand.

Who knows?  Maybe someday these little morsels will gain a big following in America, but something tells me it's likely that cardboard mania will hit foreign shores instead.  Sale of soccer (futbol) cards have been selling briskly abroad, with autographed inserts consistently selling for values unseen for American Baseball cards.

Dodgers on the Road - A Clubhouse Filled with Sweets - Split Squad Game Info

The Dodgers head outside of the friendly confines at Camelback Ranch for the first time this spring, and quickly find themselves surrounded by sugary delights.  It's like the opposition heard about the Dodgers recent move towards healthy eating and decided to just screw with them.

Featured in the photos above and below are Justin Tuner and Scott Van Slyke raiding the visiting clubhouse food shelves for a little pick-me-up.  Both photos where shared by AJ Ellis on twitter here and here.

BTW, I haven't received game notes from the Dodgers yet, but I can share that today is the first split squad day of the spring season.  Below are the particulars.

Game 1:
Dodgers vs. Seattle at 12:05 PM PST
LHP David Huff vs. RHP Erasmo Ramirez
TV: SNLA Radio: AM 570 (Eng.)
Below is the Dodger lineup; including a quick change:

Game 2:
Dodgers vs. Milwaukee at 12: PM PST
RHP Zach Lee vs. RHP Matt Garza
No TV or Radio

Blog Kiosk: 3/6/2015 - Dodger Links - Kershaw, Dickson and AJ Ellis

Clayton Kershaw looked great in his first official spring outing.  He went a scheduled two innings and was perfect with only 20 pitches.  Per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com:
"I felt good. For the first [start], it was good to get out there and make sure you feel good physically," said Kershaw, who threw 16 strikes and only four balls. "I made adjustments when I needed to. Overall, it was a good first day."
His outing was especially notable for an 'Uncle Charlie' he threw to Rookie of the Year winner Jose Abreu.  You can check out that here.  Photo above via Jon SooHoo/LA Dodgers 2015.  You can see more photos from Jon from yesterday here.

There was a lot of doubt and a lot of anxiety about whether I was going to be a Dodger again, with the way the season went. My entire career I’ve wanted to win a world championship. I feel like that will determine whether my career is a success or not. Did I reach the pinnacle of what it takes to be a team player and win a team championship? And, obviously, I want to do it with these guys, who I’ve come up with and been a part of. At that point last year, it was not about, ‘Man, I hope I come back so I can be the starter and I can play X number of games and I can redeem this last season or make this much money.’ No, I want to win a World Series and the window could start to be closing on that for me here with the Dodgers. I’m going to do everything I can to keep that pried open.
"He loves to talk hitting," Turner said. "He's not afraid to ask questions, which I love. One of my pet peeves is when you're around guys who have a lot of valuable information and you don't ask them anything. When I'm around guys, I ask questions. I want to know what they're doing, what they're thinking, because I want to learn."
  • I guess the Dodgers won't be charging hard to try to sign him.  Via Jeff Passan at Yahoo Sports, "Sources: Cuban Hector Olivera could have damaged UCL in throwing arm."  I suppose they could still try to add him to the roster, but it'll come a greatly reduced price.
  • Ron Cervenka at Think Blue LA tells us a bit about a minor league Dodger pitcher who impressed yesterday: "Jeremy Kehrt – Thursday’s other Kid-K,"
