It was origianlly named Washington Park, but will be renamed Ebbets Field. In 1984 Pee Wee Reese is elected into the Hall of Fame by the Special Veterans Committee. In 2009 the Dodgers re-signed outfielder Manny Ramirez to a two-year $45 million contract.

  • Spring Training Notes: Dennis Santana is off to a strong start this Spring, tossing 3.0 innings, allowing one run on one hit and leads the club with seven strikeouts. He has faced 14 batters this Spring and has fanned half of them (50%). In five seasons with the organization, Santana has struck out 408 batters in 361.1 innings. Also, catcher Russell Martin has been sidelined with back soreness (as a precaution) and may return on the field today.

  • Per Mike DiGiovanna at the LA Times; "Dodgers' equipment managers relieved they won't have to issue a No. 34 jersey this season."
Harper wore No. 34 during his eight years with the Washington Nationals. Had he requested that number in Los Angeles, it would have left equipment manager Alex Torres and long-time clubhouse manager Mitch Poole with a dilemma: Do they issue a number that has not been worn since Dodgers great Fernando Valenzuela in 1990?
“It came to my mind,” said Poole, who has been with the team since 1985. “I would have asked Fernando first and got his blessing on it, and it would have been something the front office would have to deal with. But for now, it’s safe.”
“My bro. That’s my bro,” Ruiz said of Smith in his quickly-improving English.
“Yeah, we get along pretty well,” Smith said. “We’re always in the same group, same hitting group with the catchers. So we’re always making sure we’re in the right spot.”
...
“I guess it comes down to more that we’re both team guys,” said Smith who started 30 games at third base last year when he and Ruiz were sharing the catching duties at Tulsa. “We know we’re going to be together and we just made it work.

  • Via Kat Smith at Live Kindly; "Why So Many LA Dodgers are now Dairy Free."
Dodgers players soon also found that ditching dairy led to health improvements. Seager said that he lost 25 pounds and also attributed his new diet to his ability to continue working out after hip surgery last August. Twenty-eight-year-old infielder Muncy said that reduced inflammation was enough of a “selling point” to convince him to go dairy-free.
“You’re talking about playing 162 games in 180 days. You’re talking about wearing cleats for all of those, which hurts your feet. Everything hurts. Anything you can do to gain an edge and make your body feel better on a daily basis, why wouldn’t you try it?” he told The Athletic.
The Dodgers clearly believe in the strength of on-base percentage, as all eight of the position players do a good to excellent job of avoiding outs. In addition, five of the batters project to very good power, so they’ll produce the extra base hits to move all those runners closer to the plate. Note that the best Dodgers order produces the same runs per game as the best Oakland order, but the Dodgers does it with a pitcher batting.
