The Yasiel Puig McFarlane Figurines are Now Available

The McFarlane MLB Series 32 figurines are now out, and it includes Cuban slugging sensation Yasiel Puig.  Head over to your favorite hobby shop or toy store to find one.

Of special note, there are at least three different versions available.  Directly below is the normal Puig figurine and its packaging.  It shows Puig in his home white uniform.

This next figurine is considered the Bronze Collector Level Yasiel Puig action figure.  They are limited to just 2,000 serial numbered figurines.  As you can see, this action figure features a rather large over-sized head - like, freakishly big.

The scarcest figurine is below.  It is the Silver Level Variant, numbered to only 750 copies and features Yasiel Puig in the Dodger road grey uniform.

Check This Out - A Yasiel Puig Custom MacFarlane Figurine

Last week I came across a post on the r/Dodgers reddit that featured a little bit of Dodgers themed folk art.  The Original Poster, Tonedog14, shared some photos of a MacFarlane figurine that was repurposed - that is, custom painted to look like our Cuban sensation.  So, I immediately contacted the poster and he was kind enough to allow me to share the pics here.

Wow!  This thing is great.  It almost looks a little like Puig.

I had asked a couple of follow up questions.  Unfortunately, I hadn't heard back.  Oh, well.

I was curious about who the figurine was originally.  Based on some preliminary research, I think it may have been a 2006 Andruw Jones figurine, which is a little nerve-racking.

From my understanding, Tonedog14's father painted this figurine and regularly sells similar creations at a Frank & Sons booth in the City of Industry.  So, if you're interested in this piece or anything like it I suggest stopping by.

According to Tonedog14 they sell these folk art pieces at $50 to $75 a piece, depending upon the amount of detail.  Their booth is located in aisle 100 at booth 127, and if you want to get in contact with them feel free to email his father here.  If you get lost look for the north east corner of the warehouse.

Blog Kiosk: 4/3/2013 - Dodgers Magazine, Hanley's Bobble and Jackie Robinson's Last Game-Used Glove

Above is a copy of the current Dodgers Magazine available at Dodger Stadium.
  • Ellen Kershaw, wife of Clayton, is doing some blogging of her own at Kershaw's Challenge.  Check out what she had to say.
  • Dan Devine at Ball Don't Lie pens a great piece on Magic Johnson's son, and the strong level of support he receives from his parents.  I must say that although it is hardly newsworthy to note a gay son, it is noteworthy when an parent is of such a high stature within the often homophobic sports world.
"Cookie and I love E.J. and support him in every way," Magic Johnson told TMZ in a statement. "We're very proud of him."
  • Check out who just signed some cards for Topps Tribute- Nomar Garciaparra.  Unfortunately, the cards show him wearing red, so it doesn't seem likely he'll be wearing Dodger Blue on them.

  • Here's a great video of Yasiel Puig in Chattanooga talking a bit about the comparison folks have been making of him to Bo Jackson.

Yasiel Puig signs for some enterprising kids.  Pic via Jon SooHoo/ LA DOdgers 2013.
"It's not about expectations, the payroll. We should want to win it. Hey, there have been expectations on them as young men way before now. They were probably the best in high school, in the college they went to. Expectations? I love it. Because it reminds me of the old Dodgers, the old Lakers. I told them, `You all had pressure. We had it too. We loved it.' I'd rather have that than no expectations."
“I call them the Ellis brothers – and I just talked to them too about this same thing. The intensity they bring every night, they’re leaders,” Johnson said “That becomes infectious to the other guys.”
Chief among the improvements are the new scoreboards, both on the walls and above the pavilions in right and left field. But Kasten said there are improvements on every level, and that a full list will be provided in the coming week.

Dodgers Blog Kiosk: 11/7/2012

Last week I featured the very first Baseball card sets to include the Dodgers newest wonderkid -- Yasiel Puig. Well, at that time the Leaf Valiant card was only available through a redemption card, and the actual card had yet to be seen.  Now, a copy of it is available for all to gawk over.  Above is an orange refractor parallel, numbered to only 99.
After a rumored oblique strain had sidelined the lefty until now, Garcia actually drew the start and continued his professional success by tossing a pair of scoreless frames.
Desser estimates that a Dodgers-owned network -- a la the Yankees' YES -- could earn up to $425 million a year. If so, the team could pocket all revenue above the first $84 million without sharing, assuming MLB doesn't change its mind about the valuation. You can see where this is going.
  • CRZBlue writes a great report on the last LA Chapter of SABR where Tim Leary came in to speak.
  • Can you tell I miss hockey?  McFarlane Toys is making a figurine of Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings goalie and Playoff MVP Jonathan Quick; complete with a little Stanley Cup.  (Hat Tip: Life in Hockeywood)
  • Sad.  Former No. 1 draft pick Brien Taylor sentenced to prison for drug sales, via Houston Mitchell at the LA Times.  This guy was one of the hottest prospects in the early 90's.  Heck, I remember selling an autographed Topps gold card of his for hundreds of dollars back then.
  • If you are interested in Baseball history then you have to check out John Thorn's blog.  He is the official historian for MLB.  Today he writes, "On the Battlefront, the New York Game Takes Hold, 1861-1865."

McFarlane Makes a Andruw Jones Statue

Master figurine maker Mike McFarlane is a step ahead of the game. He is set to release, as their 22nd MLB edition, a statue of our newest centerfielder Andruw Jones. Check out the pictures here. I have always been impressed with how realistic McFarlane's statues are. They're certainly better than the old Starting Lineups from the late 80's- early 90's.

They are also coming out with a new Nomar Statue. The facial expressions look so real.
