Blog Kiosk: 12/14/2016 - Dodgers Links - Holt, Anderson and Jansen's Wedding

I am not sure if I've ever seen what the scoreboard looked like during Dodger games at the LA Coliseum.  So, when I came across the above pic I knew I had to make note of it.  Featured above is the Dodgers scoreboard from Game 5 of the 1959 World Series.  (eBay Auction Link)

Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers History:  In 1954 the Dodgers signed amateur free agent Sandy Koufax to a contract - a $6,000 salary and $14,000 bonus.  This made Sandy a "bonus baby" (having a bonus over $4,000) and required the Dodgers to keep him on the Major League roster for two years.  As a result, the Dodgers would option Tommy Lasorda to the Montreal Royals.  In 1990 the Dodgers signed free agent outfielder Brett Butler to a four-year $13 million contract.
  • Happy Birthday, John Anderson, Charlie Hargreaves, Chris Heisey & Bill Buckner!
  • Via Neal J. Leitereg at the LA Times; "Dodgers' Adrian Gonzalez makes a play for Bret Boone's estate in Rancho Santa Fe."
  • Via Jon Weisman at Dodger Insider; "Dave Roberts, Rachel Robinson to be honored by Scouts Foundation."
  • Via Harold Uhlman at Think Blue LA; "Dodgers sign outfielder Tyler Holt to minor league contract."
The 5’10”/200 pound outfielder played in 106 games with the Reds in 2016 although he started in just 33 games. However, in the games he did start he hit .261 with a .354 OBP. While patrolling the outfield he split his time relatively equally among all three outfield positions. Over his MLB career with Cleveland and Cincinnati he has made but one error in 165 total chances for a fielding percentage of .994.

Holt has had MLB experience, has a right-hand bat, can catch a ball and can run. He will make a nice addition to the Oklahoma City Dodgers and be available in a pinch to to the parent Dodgers.
  • Holy Mackerel!  Maybe we should be calling the team the "Bridegrooms" again.  Apparently, the wedding did have something to do with Jansen staying with the Dodgers.  Via an interview with Kenley's agent, Adam Katz, on MLB Network Radio (tweet & soundcloud) he said:
“At his wedding on Saturday, I think something pivoted for him. I think it was being with his teammates and his family. He got a jolt of how important family and continuity was. He called me over the weekend and said he was having difficulty processing leaving the Dodgers and instructed me to work hard to get it done.”
On the offers from the Nationals and Marlins:
“Both deals might’ve been a little better economically, but like I said, he pivoted over the weekend and I don’t know what it was, but I think it was family, some teammates there.  He started focusing on his Dodger family, the community, the fans in L.A. It became difficult for him to process leaving, so he instructed me to knock it out and that’s what we did.”
I wonder if Justin gave similar instructions to his agent after the weeding.  My imagination likes to believe that Turner made a comment to Jansen confirming that he'd re-signed with LA and Kenley couldn't stand the thought of not joining him with the rest of the guys.
