2013 Topps Five Star Baseball - the Dodgers Relic Cards

I finally finish up my posts on Dodgers' cards within 2013 Topps Five Star Baseball with a look at the Dodger Relics.  See them below.  Go here to check out my previous post on this set.

There are three Dodgers with Jumbo Jersey Relics.  As you can see, the Yasiel Puis uses a green Dodger jersey from St. Patrick's Day 2013.  See my post about this, here.

Jumbo Jersey Relics

#FSJJR-AGZ Gonzalez                #FSJJR-MK Matt Kemp

#FSJJR-YP Yasiel Puig

Three Dodger players have "1 of 1" Letters Relic cards.  Unfortunately, only the Yasiel Puig has surfaced for fans to see.  It is below.  The Adrian Gonzalez (#FSL-AG) and Clayton Kershaw (#FSL-CK) cards have yet to be unearthed.

#FSLR-JR Jackie Robinson

A Dual Legends Relic card featuring Jackie Robinson and Hank Aaron (#FSDLR-RA) has yet to see the light of day.  There are also two Active Player Dual Patch cards, but neither have yet to show up.  They are Kemp and Puig (#FSDP-PK) and Kershaw and Sutton (#FSDP-SK).

#FSOP-6 Wainwright, Miller, Harvey, Ryu, Strasburg, Kershaw, Lee & Gonzalez

These next cards are probably the cream of the crop.  They are all "1 of 1" relics featuring either a game-used bat plate or knob.  Only a photo of the Jackie Robinson knob bat card is available to see.  According to the checklist there is a Jackie Robinson Bat Plate (#FSBP-JR) and a Duke Snider Bat Knob (#FSBK-DS) card still out there.  Also, there a a book card called "10 Greatest Lineups of All Time Book Cards" that features the 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers.  I am not exactly sure if this card includes relic or autograph pieces.

#FSBK-JR Jackie Robinson "1 of 1"

UPDATE:  Here's a scan of the Jackie Robinson Bat Plate Card (#FSBP-JR).  Per a comment on this post, it is listed for sale on the following website.

2013 Topps Five Star Baseball - The Dodgers Autographed Cards

Following up on my post from Tuesday, I now share with you most of the Dodgers autographed insert cards that can be found in boxes of 2013 Topps Five Star.  Go here to see the other Dodger cards from this set.

Unfortunately, most of the big Dodger stars did not sign their cards in time to be included within boxes, so redemption cards are inserted in their place.  In fact, it appears that only Adrian Gonzalez can be found.  Hyun-Jin Ryu, Clayton Kershaw, Yasiel Puig and Sandy Koufax are available only through a redemption card.  I should add that Topps tweeted out pics of several signed Puig cards, so they have them in hand ready to ship. I grabbed those photos and added them below.

Directly below are the autographed base cards.  Signed Ryu (#FSBA-HR) and Koufax (#FSBA-SK) cards are also available.

UPDATE:  Below is a pic of the Sandy Koufax Base Autographed card (#FSBA-SK).  They Ryu has yet to appear.

#FSBA-AG Adrian Gonzalez                        #FSBA-YP Yasiel Puig

Silver Signature cards of Kershaw (#FSSS-CK ) and Ryu (#FSSS-HR) are also available.

UPDATE:

Quatable Autographs

This set is filled with a bunch of different autographed cards with multiple signatures.  There's a Quadragraph Book (#FSBQ-2) card (featuring Hamels, Sale, Gio Gonzalez, and Kershaw) available, and 4 different Signature Book cards featuring autographs from 25 different stars (including some Dodgers).  None of them are available for viewing at this time.

Five Star Active Retired Autograph Patch

FSAP-YP Yasiel Puig

Yu Darvish and Hyun-Jin Ryu team up on several dual autographed cards.  There's a Dual Autographed Silhouetted Batter logo Patch Book (#FSDLP-DR) and a Dual Signatures Patch Book (#FSDSP-DR) available.

3-Piece Signatures Book

#FSBA3-YP Yasiel Puig

There are numerous Cut Signature cards, and all of them are "1 of 1's".  You can find Dual Cut Signature Books of Jackie Robinson & Hank Aaron (#FSCSB-AR), Reese & Koufax (#FSCSB-KR), and Robinson & Koufax (#FSCSB-KRO).  There is also Cut Signatures cards of (#FSCS-DD) Don Drysdale and (#FSCS-DS) Duke Snider.  Check out the Pee Wee Reese Cut Signature card below.

Puig's Five Star Jersey/Relic Cards Have Something Unusual About Them - Dodger Green

As avid collectors know, Topps just released their newest Baseball card set called Topps Five Star, and I noticed something strange about the Yasiel Puig relic cards.  Check out what I mean above.

At first I thought that it must be a scanner/color issue.  Then, I realized that can't be it.  Puig is wearing Dodger blue in the corresponding photo.  So, technology is not deceiving me and neither are my eyes.  What we have is a Yasiel Puig game-used relic jersey card that actually uses a green Dodger jersey.

Say wha...?  Green?

Ya, you heard me right!  The Dodgers do wear green, but only once per year.

Every Spring Training the Dodgers wear green jerseys in celebration of St. Patrick's Day, and the jersey Topps attained must be the jersey Puig wore this past Spring. Unfortunately, I couldn't track down a photo of Puig in green, so instead I'll show you a bunch of Dodgers in St. Patrick's green from March, taken by Jon SooHoo/LA Dodgers 2013.  See it below.
(pic via Jon SooHoo/LA Dodgers 2013)

How cool is that, eh?

We have a Puig relic card in an exclusive product that features a game-used jersey that we know for certain came from March 17, 2013.  It's a Puig card in Dodger Blue with a splash of green.

I wonder if all the relics use green jerseys, or is the above example unique?

As you can see above, the Puig Jumbo Relic cards of all the different parallels found appear to be all green.  At least, I have yet to see a non-green Puig relic card.  I also ran into another Puig relic card, an Active Player Quad Patch Dodgers Book Card (see it below), that also features a green jersey patch piece.  Awesome!

Normally, I could care less about game-used relic cards, but I find these cards to be really neat.

BTW, Topps Five Star is a high-end set that will cost you a fortune to purchase.  Unopened boxes cost from $350.00 to $400.00 a piece, and you get only 6 cards in the box.  That's right, just 6 cards for about 4 bills.

With Yasiel Puig's cards being the big hit from the set and plentiful, to boot, the cost/risk/reward ratio for Dodger fans is fairly good.  Still, it's far too pricey for a collector like me. I guess I'll have to look for bargains on eBay.

Also, I'll have pics of all the Dodgers' cards from this set some time next week. So, stay tuned.
