2019 Topps Now - #139 - Bellinger's Record Breaking Start to the Season

Bellinger's first month to the season has been otherworldly. Through 29 games so far Cody is leading the league in Runs (30), Hits (44), Home Runs (14), RBI's (36), Batting Average (.427), OBP (.500), OPS (.913), WAR (3.3), Sacrafice Fly's (3) and Total Bases (94). And as you can imagine, he's breaking records left and right. Last night he recorded his 44th hit of the season to break a Dodgers franchise record for hits before May 1st, but it is his efforts from Friday that is the subject of this post.

Against Chris Archer of the Pirates he rocketed a first inning two-run homer to eclipse Chase Utley's record for Total Bases (85) before May 1st. For this herculean achievement Topps issued their fifth Bellinger 2019 Topps Now card of the season. See it above and below. Go here to check it out. A total of 684 copies were sold. Per Rowan Kavner at Dodger Insider:
“He’s doing just so many good things, and he’s taking his walks when he needs to,” Roberts said. “The way he’s seeing the baseball, when he doesn’t want to do or try to do too much, you see the numbers.”
Below is what's written on the reverse:
With a two-run home run in the first inning and his thirteenth of the season, Cody Bellinger reached 88 total bases in 2019. This marks the most total bases by a player before the month of May in MLB history. Bellinger passed his former teammate Chase Utley who set the previous record of 85 in 2008.
Today, with two games left to play before the new month, Cody Bellinger now sits at 94 Total Bases.
