2015 Leaf Q Multi-Sport -- All the Dodgers Cards

Why do card companies do this?

This brand new set, just released a few days ago, has been designated as a 2015 brand - even though we're five months into the year.  It is called 2015 Leaf Q Multi-Sport trading cards, and as the name suggest it includes athletes from across the spectrum. Go here for a complete checklist.

Only one Dodger player is in the set, Mike Piazza.  I also decided to include the cards of Dodgers owner Magic Johnson. As you can see, this is an unlicensed product, so there are no team or league logos anywhere.

Weekend Autograph Opportunities: A Couple Angels on Saturday

Here are this weekends autograph opportunities and events throughout the Southland. As always, be sure to check the Blue Heaven Calendar for other events (a link can always be found on the tab at the top of this page, just left of center), and always confirm with the establishment. Everything is subject to change.  Please email me with any tips about upcoming events in Southern California.  As the rest of the week progresses I'll update this post with other events (if there are any) as I become aware of them.  Also, I don't always list every event below, so be sure to check my Calendar.  I always try to favor free signing events over paying events.  Click on any pic to embiggen.

As the saying goes, "may the 4th be with you."

Today is a Star Wars holiday.  So what better way to celebrate it then to release a special edition of Star Wars themed cards featuring your favorite Baseball players.  For the next 24 hours, or so, Topps is making available 10" x 14" poster wall art and 5" x 7" card sets that pays tribute to an old Star Wars Topps trading card design.  Specifically, it was used for the sticker insert cards released in 1977.  Go here to check out the two Dodger players available - Clayton Kershaw and Kenta Maeda.

Sometimes you need a little help from your friends.

Starting pitcher Scott Kazmir was far from perfect last night.  He threw 111 pitches in 6.2 innings of work; allowing seven hits, two homers and four earned runs.  Fortunately, it didn't matter.  The Dodgers offense picked up the slack and hammered home ten runs of their own to win the game 10-5.
The Dodgers walloped three home runs of their own; including a monstrous drive by Trayce Thompson that, quite literally, never landed. Via Ken Gurnick through Cut4:
"2-0 and he left a fastball out over the plate. Lucky enough I didn't miss it. Never had a ball that never came down. Someone's always caught it or it's landed somewhere. That was pretty interesting. . I actually didn't see until someone texted me. J.T. was talking about going up on the catwalk tomorrow. It would be funny."
Listen to Trayce talk about it with Alanna Rizzo here.  BTW, his brother Klay of the Golden State Warriors spoke a bit about the homer here.  You can also listen to Kazmir with Alanna here.  On the lighter side, several Dodgers pranked the Rays mascot before the game.  Watch it here via ESPN.  It's a gas!
