  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1947 Jackie Robinson stole home plate for the first time in his career. It was against the Pirates at Forbes Field during the fifth inning to give the Dodgers a lead and it was the eventual winning run, 4-2In 1955 future Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax makes his Major League debut. He pitches in relief against the Milwaukee Braves and goes two innings -- allowing one hit, one walk and striking out two. In 1958 the Dodgers signed amateur free agent infielder/outfielder Ron Fairly out of USC. He would eventually play 12 seasons in Los Angeles -- slashing .260/.347/.385/.732 while helping the club capture three World Series titles. In 2018 the Dodgers tie a NL record when they collectively hit seven solo home runs during a single game. It was against the Met's at Citi Field and it includes a game-winning homer by Justin Turner, against his old club, in the 12th inning, 8-7.
  • Happy Birthday, Jack BantaJason Romano!
  • Per Ron Cervenka at Think Blue LA -- "Dodgers call up Tony Gonsolin." He is likely to make a spot start.
  • Via Matthew Moreno at Dodger Blue -- "Cody Bellinger Laughs Off Fan Running Onto Field At Dodger Stadium For Hug." Below is a tweet from the offending hugger.
“At first I heard the crowd cheering and I looked to my left and I saw this chick recording with her phone,” Bellinger recalled after the Dodgers’ win. “And then she came up and said, ‘I want to hug you,’ gave me a hug and the security guard tackled her.
“Odd. Definitely odd. She got tackled and I said, ‘You know you’re going to jail?’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah, I know. It was worth it.’ Maybe not for her parents. They’ve got to pay the fine.”

  • It's all about "The Seven P's - Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance". Via Tom Gatto at Sports Illustrated -- "Dodgers' Walker Buehler is taking off with fine-tuned approach."
The Los Angeles Times notes that the surge began as Buehler started taking an increased role in preparing for games with the catchers and coaching staff.
"Obviously, doing your own stuff and knowing it in your head gets you a little bit more convicted," Buehler said, per the Times. "and that's never a bad thing."
After the game, Bellinger came out in support of extending nets, in part because some fans just don’t have a chance to protect themselves.
“I would assume,” he said, “that would be a smart decision just to protect those fans in the front row that don't have the reaction time."
"The Dodgers, they always do stuff like that, they wear their stupid t-shirts or whatever; they make stuff up," Affeldt said Friday on KNBR's "Murph & Mac."
"It's easy to wear those shirts when you have 51 wins … and teams do have fun that way," Affeldt said. "Basically, it was a stupid comment that made no sense. So, now you're wearing a stupid shirt that makes no sense about a stupid comment. You're not showing your intelligence there really, but I understand what they're doing.
