A Vintage Jackie Robinson Bust

This is fantastic.  And to a Jackie Robinson collector it is unusual.

Featured above and below is a Jackie Robinson bust currently for sale at Inside the Park Collectibles (Auction Link).  Likely from the 1940's, it exactly resembles a well known memorabilia piece commonly known to Robinson collectors as the Petitto Studios Jackie Robinson candy container.  You can see a pic of that on the right.

The bust stands about 5 1/2" tall (roughly twice the size of the candy container without the clear plastic) and also includes a Petitto Studios makers mark on the reverse.  So, they both come from the same place, and it makes me wonder if the bust was a model for the ensuing candy box.  I say this because the candy container is quite plentiful (as vintage memorabilia goes); whereas, this bust is something I have never seen before.  According to the auction house this is a first for them too.

I have no idea what something would be worth, but I am sure it'll find it's way into someone's collection.  It's just too unique to be ignored.

UPDATE:  I see now that this exact bust recently sold on eBay (link here) at $158.05.  So the buyer is trying to flip it.   One thing that auction notes is that the bust is made of plaster.

Clayton Kershaw was spotless in two innings of work yesterday.  It was his second start of spring.  Per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com:

"Kersh had everything working," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. "Two clean innings and it was good to see. It was a good day, overall."

In other Dodger news, Sergio Romo was stifling in his first inning as a Dodger yesterday.  He struck out the side.

Wheelin' and Dealin' is the name of the game.

I sometimes get the impression that the Dodger front office just likes doing deals.  Any deal, really.  As long as they believe they've done well they'll sign off on anything.  Case in point, check out this trade announced last night.  The Dodgers sent rising pitching prospect Chase De Jong to the Mariners for two prospects: 23-year old shortstop Drew Jackson and 20-year old right-handed pitcher Aneurys Zabala.  Per a Dodger press release:

Blog Kiosk: 3/2/2017 - Dodgers Links - Kazmir, Calhoun, Oaks, Ryu and Kershaw

Scott Kazmir made his first spring start last night and didn't last two innings.  No matter, though.  As Scott said later on, via Cary Osborne at Dodger Insider:

“It’s a matter of getting reps to go out there and get some consistency”

Obviously, he's still working on consistency.  He began the evening by blowing through the Giants lineup in the first inning, but then got into trouble during the second.  Per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com:

"I had a long [pregame] bullpen and it was on point, but as the night was going on, I kind of got lazy with the stuff I was working on," Kazmir said. "The first inning I was able to sync some stuff up."

BTW, the Dodgers defeated the Giants in their first match-up of Spring, 7-6.  Joc Pederson slammed a three-run homer in the fifth inning.
