2014 Allen & Ginter Baseball - The Dodger Base Cards

Take a look at all of the Dodger base cards found in Topps' 2014 Allen & Ginter set below.  I have paired each normal base card with a mini parallel card.  Go here to check out all of my post on this set. 

The first 300 cards of the set is the base set.  The next 50 cards (#301 to #350) represent the short printed base cards.  The next group of 50 cards (#351 to #400) are mini-only exclusive cards that can be found hidden in RIP cards.  Only Dodger cards up to #350 are shown below.  Tomorrow I'll share photos of the mini-only exclusive cards.

Blog Kiosk: 7/14/2014 - Dodger Links - Seager Promoted, Urias Impressive and the Dodgers Won't Trade Top Prospects

• Topps has been giving out limited 2014 All-Star FanFest wrapper redemption cards; one of which features Clayton Kershaw.  You have to open up a bunch of Topps Baseball packs at their booth at the FanFest to get it.  Check out the Kershaw on the right.
• Hopefully this stops all of those ridiculous trade rumors from starting up again.  (Not likely!)  Via Dylan Hernandez at The LA Times, "Dodgers unlikely to add David Price or Cole Hamels, GM intimates."

“Based on what I know of who can be acquired, even those of upper-echelon ability that are going to require more than others, I don’t see us doing anything that’s going to tear apart the farm system,” Colletti said.

So please, no more stupid rumors where we trade the farm for a short-term rental.   They are a big waste of time and energy.  Clearly, both Urias and Seager (and possibly Lee, Pederson and all of our recent draft picks) will not be traded.

• Sarah at We're Born Again, There's New Grass on the Field, shares a great article from the LA Times about Roy Campanella Night, 1959.  She also provides some interesting insights about the game.
• Via Zach Helfand at The LA Times, "'Magical words' earn Yasiel Puig second ejection of his career."

At some point after the pitch, according to Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly, Puig “threw the magical words out there, and that was it.”

So, what were those magical words?  I dunno.  For some reason that infamous scene between Kevin Costner and an umpire in the movie Bull Durham comes to mind, and this would be both horrible (since bullying of that nature isn't right) and hilarious (Bull Durham, ya know).  BTW, David Vassegh on twitter claims Puig called the umpire stupid.

• Via Jeff Passan at Yahoo Sports, "Is 18 too soon for Dodgers phenom Julio Urias to debut in big leagues?"

"It's hard to explain how a kid who's 17 does everything he does," said Dodgers prospect Corey Seager, Urias' teammate each of the last two seasons. "He's unbelievably composed. His maturity is through the roof. He's just very impressive. There's nothing that frightens him. He doesn't overreact when he gets a bad call. He doesn't throw his glove. Nothing like that ever comes out of him."

BTW, both Urias and Corey Seager played in yesterday's MLB All-Star Futures Game.  Urias went 1 inning, threw 14 pitches, 11 for strikes and recorded 1 strike out.  Seager went 0 for 1 - lining out to right field.  Here is the boxscore for the game.

Tommy Lasorda was as raspy as ever when confronted by a paparazzi after a big dinner.  He was asked to comment about the Stow verdict, but Tommy told him he was tired.

Blog Kiosk: 7/12/2014 - Dodger Links - Is Pederson Coming Soon?

• Jon Weisman at Dodger Insider shares an early peek at the Babe Ruth as a Dodger bobblehead that the team is giving away to fans on September 9th.  See a pic on the right.
• The Dodgers will be giving away commemorative pins in honor of the no-hitters thrown by Josh Beckett and Clayton Kershaw to fans at a couple of future home games.  On September 1st (vs. WSH, 5:10 p.m.) fans will receive a Beckett pin, and on September 22 (vs. SF, 7:10 p.m.) fans will receive a Kershaw pin.  The first 40,000 fans will receive a pin.  Mock-up drawings of the pins are not yet available.

The Free Joc Pederson movement is just beggining.  I don't know if Joc will be the answer, but I look forward to finding out.:

They need Pederson because of his fresh, 22-year-old legs, his agility and the fact he has been playing the position his entire career. They need him to catch the ball. Whatever he produces at the plate is gravy.

Well, that time has come. Everyone is healthy. Kemp and Ethier have tried and failed to be center fielders, with Ethier throwing in lousy offense and fewer homers than Billy Hamilton for good measure. Pederson has spent his half-season in Triple-A doing nothing but produce. The time is now.

Some Great Dodger Memorabilia on Auction at the National in Cleveland

The National Sports Collectors Convention is the premier hobby event in the country.  Collectors and dealers from throughout North America come out in droves to talk sports and collecting.  For folks who love the hobby there is no better place to be.

Unfortunately, being Southern California based means having to travel far distances to enjoy the show.  So, I usually have to depend on the goodwill (and photographs) of others to enjoy what it has to offer.  BTW, I have it on good word that it could be years, if ever, before they bring "The National" back to the West Coast. 

I plan, like always, to share some of my favorite pics from the web when the show opens.  So, stay tuned for that.  In the meantime, Heritage Auctions is running a Live Auction concurrent with the convention, and they recently opened it up for collectors to look through.  Below are some of my favorite Dodger items.

Wes Parker is easily the greatest defensive 1st baseman to ever put on Dodger Blue, and maybe even in all of Baseball history.  He won 6 consecutive Gold Gloves and was named to the Major League Baseball All-Time Gold Glove team in 2007.  In his 9 year career he had a .996 fielding percentage and recorded only 45 errors total.

Below is Parker's 1967 Gold Glove from Rawlings - his first in his career.  This award comes direct from Wes Parker.

Get a look at this!

Below is a player contract for Roy Campanella covering the 1947 Season.  It indicates that he is moving from their minor league club in Nashua, NH to the Dodgers tops farm team in Montreal, and that he would be earning $250.00 a month for his services.  Based on an inflation calculator from the Bureau of Labor Statistics that is equivalent to $2,667.04 per month.

Don Zimmer was one of the more beloved men to ever get on the field.  He played for 5 different clubs over a 13 playing career.  Then, he either managed or coached in the game for the remainder of his life.  Overall, he was active in professional Baseball for over 65 years.  Don Zimmer passed away last month at the age of 83. 

Featured below is a game-used Brooklyn Dodger jersey once worn by him in 1954.  It is from his first season in the Major Leagues.

Blog Kiosk: 7/11/2014 - Dodger Links - Kershaw Streak Stopped at 41 and Babe Ruth's 100th Anniversary

Clayton Kershaw was incredible last night, once again.  He pitched a complete game in the victory; striking out 11, waling 1 and giving up only 3 hits.  Unfortunately, his scoreless-innings streak was stopped at 41 innings (now 3rd on the Dodgers all-time list) by a Chase Headley home run in the 6th inning.  Nevertheless, the Dodgers eked out a 2 to 1 victory on the backs of Kershaw and some timely hitting.  Photo above via Jon SooHoo/LA Dodgers 2014.  Check out more of his photos from yesterday here.

• ICYMI:  Carl Crawford is now back with the Dodgers following his rehab stint in Albuquerque.  Clint Robinson has been designated for assignment.

• As you may have heard, upwards of 20,000 Dodger fans did not receive a Hello Kitty Travel Mug at last nights game.  Jill Painter on twitter tells us why:

• Via Matt Calkins at UT San Diego, "Be bold (and right), Padres -- hire Kim Ng."

Kim Ng's name is being thrown around more and more as the ideal candidate for the Padres' vacant general manager position, which would make her the first female GM in a major professional sport. But could these endorsements simply be the byproduct of our desire to witness history? 

Actually, no. That's not it all. Ng, who will likely interview with the Padres this week, just happens to be the most qualified candidate out there.

• Via Cory DiBenedetto at the Daily Gammons, "Home Run Derby: Can it hurt your game?"  Based on the numbers provided it sure does.
• BTW, today is the 100th anniversary of the debut of Babe Ruth.  As a special treat check out a Jim Axelrod story at CBS News that includes a recent interview with Babe's daughter, Julia Ruth Stevens.  Holy moly, she is 97-years old.  A video is included.

She still calls him "Daddy." She says, "I always did. When I think about Daddy. I think about him just being my father, but he really belonged to the world."

• Also, via Lee Sinins at the Daily Gammons, "Stats report: Adrian Beltre sets a major league record."  It was for career total bases by a 3rd baseman.  Still think he's not a future Hall of Famer?
