Blog Kiosk: 7/5/2013 - Dodger Links - Man Bear Puig, Scully and Urias

I hope you had a wonderful Independence Day holiday.  Pic above is of the fireworks display from Colorado, via twitter @Dodgers.
  • "Scully talks Dodgers, reflects on legendary career: Legenday voice speaks on current state of club along with favorite all-time teams," via Barry M. Bloom at MLB.com.
"Sixty-four years is a long time to live, let alone broadcasting or doing anything," Scully responded when asked if it was even more mindboggling to him. "God has been very kind to me. I should be on my knees most hours of any day giving thanks. I got what I wanted to do ever since I was 8 years old. It came early. My health and the job itself have lasted all these years. You are looking at the most grateful person who walks the planet."
  • Via Baseball America, "Prospect Hot Sheet (July 5): Precocious Julio Urias Earns Top Spot".
Urias, a Mexican lefty who has been succeeding with both stuff and feel, has been one of the better pitchers in the Midwest League since his arrival, going 2-0, 2.78 with 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings and a reasonable 3.6 BB/9.
“Still a singles hitter,” he said. “If I happen to hit a home run, I’m going to take it, but I’m still a singles hitter.”

Does he really believe that?

“Do I believe that?” Gonzalez said. “Yeah. I’m just trying to get singles up the middle.”
  • This makes me so sad.  Kings veteran defenseman Rob Scuderi just signed a 4-year free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Dammit!  He was out best stay-at-home D-man.  Via Jewels From the Crown.
  • "Putting the Great In Great Britain: Baseball in London," via Craig Robinson at The Score.  He took in a Baseball game in Great Britain.
