Blog Kiosk: 3/23/2018 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Just another vintage spring training pic to get you excited for the upcoming season. Per the descriptor on the reverse:
Dated Mar 6, 1949 - WHITMAN FLIES OUT IN INTRA-SQUAD GAME.  Dick Whitman, Dodger outfielder, flies put in first inning of the first intra-squad game for the Brooklyn club at their Vero Beach, Fla., training camp.  Catcher Lembo and umpire Andrews watch the ball sail to the outfield." (eBay link)

“I feel like I’m stronger than I’ve ever been,” said Alexander whose weight now fluctuates between 190 and 195. “It’s more of a lifestyle. It’s just more of a conscious thing that I think of all the time. It’s like a new way of life, I guess. … Health is just at a higher bar for me than it was before. It probably should have been that way always.”
Alexander takes insulin daily “but I really don’t take that much.” Mostly, he keeps the disease at bay by monitoring his blood-sugar levels and trying to “do what they tell us to do as far as eating healthy and exercise.”
  • Per Ken Gurnick at; "Kemp in good position to make Dodgers' roster: Veteran outfielder could be No. 3 hitter with Turner out."
"It feels real," said Kemp, the unlikeliest of offseason acquisitions in a salary swap. "I'm happy it's real and excited I get to go to L.A. Saturday."
Kemp didn't say he's been promised a spot on the club. But he's still here and starting in Cactus League games, so draw your own conclusions. Going into Thursday night's game, he was hitting .302 with four homers and a .968 OPS.
“Craig Callan has devoted his adult life to leading, managing and enhancing Historic Dodgertown and he deserves tremendous credit for how this renowned training and conference center looks today,” Historic Dodgertown Chairman Peter O’Malley said in a statement. “Craig is a community treasure and I’m happy that he and his family will continue to enjoy living in Vero Beach.”
