Blog Kiosk: 4/5/2018 - Dodgers Links - Go Kings Go!

The second season is about to begin, and to my utter surprise the Kings are in. I just didn't think they had a chance this season, but they proved me wrong.

Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1913 25,000 fans watched the Dodgers play their first game in their new home, Ebbets Field. It was an exhibition match that saw Brooklyn defeat the Yankees, 3-2. Superbas (Dodgers) outfielder Casey Stengel (the future famed Yankees manager) hit the first home run at the stadium -- an inside-the-park homer in the fifth inning. In 1977 the Dodgers signed free agent first baseman Boog Powell.
  • Happy Birthday, H├ęctor Olivera & Greg Smith!
  • Audio: Diamondbacks catcher Alex Avila, the grandson of legendary Dodgers scout Ralph Avila, joined David Vassegh to talk about his grandfather's impact and what it was like growing up a Dodgers fan (Audio Link).
  • Jim Callis at takes a quick look at, "Where Dodgers' Top 30 prospects are starting season."
  • Today is Opening Day for most of our minor league squads. Eric Stephen at True Blue LA has details on how you can listen and keep track of each game.
  • Yeah, this was fun. Via Ken Gurnick at; "Dodgers complete bizarre double play in 6th."
  • Per JP Hoornstra at the OC Register; "Meet the Dodgers’ minor leaguer who retired to run a cryptocurrency hedge fund."
In spring training they met for dinner. Adkison told Gwynn he was thinking about retiring.
“I was a little taken aback but after he got talking about cryptocurrency, you heard the passion he had about it,” Gwynn said. “I asked him if he saw himself in the big leagues. He said, ‘no.’ I asked him, are you passionate about what you do? He said ‘yes.’
“I said, it sounds like you already have your mind made up.”
