Blog Kiosk: 2/8/2019 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Above is a 1972 photograph of Frank Robinson with Dodger speedster Maury Wills. It comes from the Los Angeles Times Photographic Archives at UCLA and was taken by Bill Varie (link here).

Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1916 National League owners voted down a proposal by Dodgers owner Charles Ebbets to impose a limit of 2,000 seats that a club can sell for 25 cents. In 1933 the Dodgers traded their soon-to-be Hall of Fame pitcher Dazzy Vance to the Cardinals for a couple of scrubs. In 1982 the Dodgers traded longtime second baseman Davey Lopes to the A's for a minor leaguer. This trade broke up the longest-playing infield in major league history. In 1995 the Dodgers signed Japanese free agent pitcher Hideo Nomo. He would have a fantastic rookie campaign -- going 13-6 with an 2.54 ERA, a league leading 236 strike outs and three shutouts.

  • A knuckleballer! Another depth signing for the Dodgers. Per Ken Rosenthal on twitter:
  • This is like trickle down economics. Per Rowan Kavner at Dodger Insider; "SportsNet LA and KTLA 5 to simulcast 10 Dodger games in 2019." Below is the schedule.
  • ICYMI: Per Jeff Passan at ESPN; "Major League Baseball to rename disabled list as 'injured list'"
"In recent years, the commissioner has received several inquiries regarding the name of the 'Disabled List,'" Pfeifer wrote. "The principal concern is that using the term 'disabled' for players who are injured supports the misconception that people with disabilities are injured and therefore are not able to participate or compete in sports. As a result, Major League Baseball has agreed to change the name 'Disabled List' to be the 'Injured List' at both the major and minor league levels. All standards and requirements for placement, reinstatement, etc., shall remain unchanged. This change, which is only a rebranding of the name itself, is effective immediately.''
