Blog Kiosk: 2/18/2020 - Dodgers Links & News - Some Odds and Ends

Betts is looking like a happy camper. Photos above via @Dodgers on twitter. Below are some notes from a Dodger press release regarding the Dodgers Spring.
  • Right-handed pitcher, Brusdar Graterol, threw his first bullpen session (on Monday), making his Dodger Spring Training debut. The Venezuelan born pitcher was a combined 19-6 with a 2.48 ERA (59 ER/214.0 IP) in 51 minor league games in the Twins’ organization last season. After making his Major League debut on Sept. 1, 2019, the 21-year old made 10 relief appearances for Minnesota to record a 1-1 record with a 4.66 ERA (5 ER/9.2 IP) with 10 strikeouts against two walks.
  • The Dodgers would like to welcome non-roster invitee Terrance Gore to camp. The outfielder spent last season between Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Kansas City. With Kansas City, he appeared in 37 games for a .275/.362/.353 slash line with two doubles and a triple.
  • The first live batting practices of camp were thrown Monday by Walker Buehler and Tony Gonsolin.

The lawsuit alleges the Astros cheated not only the sport but in particular their fans by “deceptively overcharging them for season tickets while ... knowingly and surreptitiously engaged in a sign stealing scheme in violation of Major League Baseball rules.” In so doing, the suit alleges, the Astros “secretly put a deficient product on the field.”

  • Arte killed the deal... Thank goodness. Per an AP report at ESPN -- "Angels owner Arte Moreno nixed trade with Dodgers for Joc Pederson and Ross Stripling."A different kind of depth signing for the Dodgers.
"It wasn't all impatience," Moreno said. "There were other things involved, too. ... I just would rather not talk about it. That wasn't going to happen, and it's not happening."
Gilbert is a 26-year-old reliever who was the Phillies’ 6th-round pick in 2015. He spent all of last season at Triple-A, pitching 47 2/3 innings of 2.83-ERA baseball, striking out 46 batters. With the Dodgers’ crowded bullpen unit, he’s a long shot to genuinely contend for a roster spot, but he at least represents good depth, especially in case of injuries.
  • The anger is palpable. Via Alden Gonzalez at ESPN -- "'It's just like ripping open a scab': Dodgers' sign-stealing anger bursts through."
"Us in this clubhouse, we're all going to handle it differently," Kershaw said. "And I think that's awesome that everybody's gonna answer these questions differently. Everybody's gonna be honest about it, everybody's gonna move on in their own way, and I think that's really cool. I think as a team, we can all be individual in how we handle it, and then come together as a team after it and be ready to go. I think the script of this, of what happened in Houston yesterday, it didn't seem as genuine. And I think over here, you're gonna feel the genuineness of what we feel. And we're going to move on a little bit easier from it, I think."
