Dodgers Notes from Spring Training: Spring Game 28/Home Game 14

Throughout Spring Training the Dodgers PR department sends out helpful daily notes from Camelback Ranch, and I am happy to pass them along.  See what they've written below.

THE FINAL SPRINT: The Dodgers take on the Rangers in the second-to-last home date at Camelback Ranch this spring and the club’s final night game in Arizona. The Dodgers and Rangers tied, 3-3, all the way back on March 4 in Surprise. Following tonight’s contest, the Dodgers have two games left in the Phoenix area prior to the Freeway Series, which begins Thursday night at Dodger Stadium.
  • Opening Day, April 4 against the Padres in San Diego, is just one week away!
CLOSE DOESN’T COUNT: The Dodgers battled back several times yesterday, but ultimately lost to the Cincinnati Reds at Camelback Ranch, 7-6.
  • Dodger infielder Chase Utley cracked his first home run of the Cactus League season in the losing effort, a two-run shot in the sixth inning. Utley is hitting .311 (14-for-45) with five doubles, a triple and a homer this spring. Carl Crawford also drove in two runs yesterday, giving him five RBI this spring. On the mound, Kenta Maeda took the loss, but was solid, allowing two earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched to go along with five strikeouts. Maeda’s Cactus League ERA is now 1.89. RHP Pedro Baez tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout, lowering his spring ERA to 1.93 in nine games.

TONIGHT’S PROBABLE PITCHERS:
  • LHP Alex Wood will make his fourth start of the spring, after 4.0 innings of work Tuesday against the Royals. The 25-year-old left-hander posted career-best numbers last season, winning a career-high 12 games (12-12) in 32 combined starts, while posting a 3.84 ERA.
  • RHP Chris Hatcher will make his 10th Cactus League appearance, last pitching 1.1 scoreless innings Saturday against the White Sox. Hatcher went 3-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 49 games last year in his first season with the Dodgers, limiting opposing hitters to a .238 batting average and averaging better than a strikeout per inning.
  • RHP Kenley Jansen is expected to make his eighth outing of the spring, after most recently striking out the side March 24 against Cleveland. Jansen enters his seventh big league season after successfully converting 36 of 38 save opportunities last year, the third- highest single-season save percentage in team history (Gagne: 2003-100.0%, 2004-95.7%).
  • RHP Joe Blanton will take the hill for the eighth time this spring, after tossing 1.1 innings against the White Sox Saturday. Last year, he combined to go 7-2 with two saves and a 2.84 ERA in 36 games (four starts) with the Royals and Pirates.
  • LHP J.P. Howell is expected to appear in his eighth Cactus League game, last pitching 0.1 of an inning Thursday against the Indians. Howell finished the 2015 season with a 6-1 record with one save and tossed scoreless relief in 59 of 65 appearances.
