Blog Kiosk: 5/2/2018 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Wake up! Per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com:
"It doesn't matter what month it is," said Kershaw. "If you're 10 games out, you better start playing well."

  • This Day in Dodger History: In 1928 Giants manager John McGraw does the unusual. In that afternoons game against the Dodgers he calls for an intentional walk with the bases loaded and two outs to drive in a run in the ninth inning to make the score 2-1. Giants starter Larry Benton then struck out the next batter, Harry Riconda, to get the victory. In 1975 the Dodgers traded Geoff Zahn and Eddie Solomon to the Cubs for starting pitcher Burt HootonIn 1995 Hideo Nomo made his first major league start. He would pitch five innings of one-hit ball against the Giants in a no-decision. The Dodgers would eventually lose the game in the 15th inning, 4-3

  • ICYMI: The Dodgers recalled southpaw Edward Paredes from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart to OKC. Per a Dodger press release:
Paredes, 31, has made nine relief appearances with the OKC Dodgers this season going 1-2 with one save and posting a 1.86 ERA (2 ER/9.2 IP), while limiting the opposition to a .229 average. The southpaw from the Dominican Republic saw his first career big league action last season with the Dodgers, going 1-0 with a 3.24 ERA (3 ER/8.1 IP) and striking out 11 batters without issuing a walk in 10 relief appearances over two stints with the club. Paredes, who is in his second season with the Dodger organization and his 10th overall professional campaign, was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Seattle Mariners on May 12, 2005.
Second baseman Logan Forsythe could begin a Minor League rehab assignment this weekend, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, but third baseman Justin Turner's has been pushed back to next week.
"I would say next week [on a Turner rehab assignment], but I'd also say J.T. needs less time than Logan as far as rehab games," said Roberts.
