Blog Kiosk: 11/14/2018 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

The Hollywood Stars Game was the best. Featured above are 1981 participants John Ritter and Ann Jillian, found on eBay.

  • This Day in Dodgers History: In 1979 the Dodgers signed free agent starting pitcher David Goltz to a six-year $3MM contract. The former eight-year Twins veteran went 9-19 with a 4.25 ERA in three season with the team before being release in 1982. In 2016 Corey Seager is the unanimous winner of the National League Rookie of the Year award.

  • No! This is horrible news. Per Jackyn Hendricks at the New York Post; "Dodgers star’s wife says dog was murdered."
Detailing the alleged incident, which took place Nov. 7, 2016, Kourtney Turner claims a “vicious and aggressive” canine, Sonny, harmed her 11-year-old pooch after getting onto her property. She says she was “too paralyzed by fear” to come to Dior’s aid, alleging no one else stepped in to stop the attack by Sonny, who has an alleged violent past.
Dior is said to have endured fatal injuries as a result.

On DJ Peters: "He does everything we could ask him. He's here at Dodger Stadium, working out and hitting with our coaches," Gomes said. "Anything DJ does on the positive end is never going to be a surprise to anybody in [player development]. Nobody is more dedicated to his craft. The power is there, and he's continuing to simplify his movement and cover more of the strike zone and more pitches."
On Gavin Lux: "Talk about the consistency. Gavin was as consistent as you can get -- he hit .324 at each level," Gomes said. "Our hitting coordinator, Aaron Bates, talks about taking away the mechanical side and then you can go play baseball. [Lux] did such great work on his swing over the offseason and added to his physicality, he could just go play baseball. He has ... a really advanced thought process for somebody his age and he has the ability to see strike-ball and puts in a tremendous amount of work defensively on a daily basis."
