Blog Kiosk: 4/3/2019 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Not only does Cody Bellinger lead the Majors in home runs (5), he also now holds the franchise record for most home runs in the first 300 games of their MLB career -- Bellinger with 69, Piazza with 68 and Howard with 55. Per Rowan Kavner at Dodger Insider:
“Even that first at-bat, I think he just missed a homer,” Roberts said. “Then he comes up with bases loaded, stays on the cut fastball. His at-bat qualities, his takes are good. He’s just seeing it really well. I think this is as good as I’ve seen him.”

  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1968 the Dodgers traded for left-hander Hank Aguirre from the Tigers for a player to be named later, minor leaguer Fred Moulder. He played one season in Blue, and is better known for being the worst hitter in Major League history -- slashing .085/.117/.108/.225 and striking out an astounding 61% of the time through a 16-year Major League career. In 1974 the Dodgers traded for soon-to-be fan favorite Pedro Guerrero from the Indians in exchange for pitcher Bruce EllingsenIn 2004 the Dodgers traded Franklin Gutierrez and Andrew Brown to the Indians for outfielder Milton Bradley

  • Via a MLB Press Release; "Former Dodgers Spring Training site (Dodgertown) in Vero Beach to be renamed Jackie Robinson Training Complex."
“The Jackie Robinson Training Complex will honor the history and legacy of Dodgertown by fostering the development of the diverse collection of young men and women who are the future of our game,” said Commissioner Manfred. “Our plans for the facility extend beyond the playing field and will include growth opportunities for the athletes as they learn about personal character and those who paved the way before them, especially Jackie. We believe those who play at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex will be among some of the most passionate and dedicated players in the country.”
  • Here's a couple of stories related to the recent violent attack at Dodger Stadium. Per an AP Report; "Injured fan's lawyers critical of Dodgers security." Here's another AP Report; "Stow 'angry' after another Dodger Stadium attack."
  • This is what we all want to know, via a tweet from the Dodgers DJ - DJ Severe:

“I knew I had big shoes to fill, and during my first season in 2016 I think I tried too hard not to sound too different and I wasn’t being me,” Ruehle said. “It wasn’t until my second year that I let loose …”
...
“When we went past midnight I played, ‘Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’ from ‘Oklahoma!’ and then I played ‘Saturday in the Park’ from Chicago because it was Saturday and we were at the ballpark,” Ruehle said. “When it got to one o’clock I played ‘One’ by U2, but then later I was kicking myself because I should have played ‘One’ by Three Dog Night. I also played ‘The Longest Time’ by Billy Joel. I’ll usually play that if the game is over four hours. You never plan on playing past midnight. Those are things you just think of on fly.”
He’s never been quite as high as McCann in the annual WAR rankings, but his career-best 7.6 WAR (aided by 28.2 framing runs, also a career best) in 2008 did rank fifth in the majors, and he was in the NL’s top 10 in both 2013 (5.6) and ’14 (6.5) while helping the Pirates to a pair of Wild Card berths. Indeed, Martin was a key figure in turning around the Pirates’ culture of losing; his reputation was part of the reason the Blue Jays were willing to shell out $82 million over five years to sign him as a free agent in November 2014. Indeed, he helped them end their 21-season playoff drought with back-to-back appearances in 2015 and ’16; they reached the ALCS in both years.
  • This morning's UniWatch post makes note of several new MLB sock designs that were officially released yesterday. (Link Here) Below are the Dodger socks.
"Added two socks, one that pays homage to the iconic "Three Sisters" behind the outfield wall (worn on Opening Day) and another that kits up to their road uniforms.'
