2013 Heritage High Numbers Baseball - Dogers Autographed Inserts - Paco

I wanted to briefly put this up.  Last week I posted up pics of the Dodgers' base cards to Topps 2013 Heritage High Number factory set.  Go here to check that out.

At the time, I had not seen any of the 3 Dodger autographed cards that are available.

Well, we now have them available for viewing.  Unfortunately, only the Paco Rodriguez card can actually be seen.  The Ryu and Puig cards are available only through a redemption card, so it may be quite some time before we can get a real look at them.

Paco Rodriguez (#ROA-PR)

Yasiel Puig (#ROA-YP)     Hyun-Jin Ryu (#ROA-HR)

UPDATE! Weekend Autograph Opportunities: Holiday Mall Tour with Valenzuela & Garvey, and a Bunch of Dodgers at Frank & Sons

Here are this weekends autograph opportunities and events throughout the Southland. As always, be sure to check the Blue Heaven Calendar for other events (a link can always be found on the tab at the top of this page, just left of center), and always confirm with the establishment. Everything is subject to change.  Please email me with any tips about upcoming events in Southern California.  As the rest of the week progresses I'll update this post with other events (if there are any) as I become aware of them.  Also, I don't always list every event below, so be sure to check my Calendar.  I always try to favor free signing events over paying events.  Click on any pic to embiggen.

The Dodgers 2013 Holiday Mall Tour continues this weekend with Steve Garvey & Fernando Valenzuela appearing at the Santa Anita - The Promenade by Macy's on Saturday.  Go here for more information, or go here for my most recent updates on this mall tour.  BTW, these are free autograph appearances.

Tentatively scheduled to make an appearance are Steve Garvey and Fernando Valenzuela on Saturday.  Unfortunately, exact appearance times have not been made available yet.  I'll update this post with those times when I find out.  So, check back often.
UPDATESteve has confirmed on his twitter that he'll be there from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
UPDATE II: The Dodger website now shows Fernando appearing from 11:00 Am to 12:00 PM, and Garvey appearing from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

BTW, Steve Garvey is scheduled to appear at two different events on this day (at the Mall Tour and Frank & Sons in the City of Industry).  The mall appearance is a free signing event, and the Frank & Sons event is a "pay for autograph" appearance.  Also, I suspect attendance at the Mall Tour will be high, so you'll likely have to get their early to get an autograph.

The Dodgers Invaded the Kings Twitter

The LA Kings made a huge mistake last night.

They were in Anaheim playing the Ducks for the first time this season.  As you know, they are set to play an outdoor hockey game at Dodger Stadium in late January, so this early match-up was a showcase for that Stadium Series hockey game.  With that in mind, the Kings let the Dodgers PR folks take control of the of their twitter account for the entire 2nd period of the game.

What could go wrong, right?

Well, the snark started off with a bang.

Even before officially taking over, Josh Tucker (the social media guru behind the Dodgers) decided to start the duck roast early.

In their first tweet on the Kings account, the Dodgers take the high road.

Only to fool us all with examples of their sophomoric charm.  I especially love the last link shown below.

With hockey being the game of the evening, the Dodgers let Kings fan know about the day Vin Scully raced Jackie Robinson on skates.

Video Link:

Then they warmed up Kings mascot Bailey.

So, who's your favorite Kings of all-time?

And now some game notes:

By the end of the 2nd period the game was tied 1 to 1.  Then finished up tied 2 to 2 by the end of the 3rd period and overtime play.  The game had been a hard fought affair with plenty of checking, shots on goal and power play opportunities.  Overtime was especially fun to watch as numerous penalties caused confusing line combinations.  Fortunately, our goalie was better than theirs.  After an 8 round shootout, the Kings won the game on a goal by the aptly named Dwight King. Watch highlights here.

And now to the goodbyes.

Blog Kiosk: 12/4/2013 - Dodgers Links - Nolasco Thanks the Fans, Winter Meetings and Hideo Nomo

Topps unveiled a preview pic of their newest Baseball card set called 2013 Topps Five Star.  Check out the above Jackie Robinson/Roberto Clemente dual relic card.  BTW, this set officially went live today.  Pic above via @ToppsCards on twitter.

  • As you know, Ricky Nolasco signed a contract with the Twins.  Well, last night he sent out a tweet thanking Dodger fans for last year.  Class act, that guy.

Circus clown Frank Oakley, born Frank Anderson but known as “Slivers,” was born in Sweden in 1871. His most famous act, the pantomime “Ball Game,” played on the baseball fan’s fantasy trope, “Kill the Umpire.”
"Michael (Weiner) was a friend, an advisor and a mentor of mine," Clark said. "The vision he laid out for me and for the organization when I came onboard a handful of years ago is the same vision we are going to continue."
