We've Got a Streak!

The Dodgers won a crazy one this afternoon. Amidst a fan protest, dismal attendance and a last place standing the Dodger overcame it all to come out the victors. They matched a stellar pitching performance by a Padres staff with one of their own. The Dodgers had a one hitter while the Padres were fighting for a no-no. With the Dodgers coming up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth they finally decided to take matters into their own hands. That is, Juan Uribe and Dioner Navarro took the bull by the horns. With two outs, Uribe whacked a double to left and Navarro singled him home for a walk-off RBI.

Wild celebration ensued. The sparse crowd were rewarded for their patience as the Dodgers recorded their 3rd win in a row, and their 5th 3 game winning streak of the year. Hopefully they can break into 4 win territory tomorrow.

eBay: What a Legendary Card

Few relationships in Baseball has as much significance as this one. Branch Rickey and Jackie Robinson have forever been tied together as one set the table for the other to accomplish the task. This card, that sold recently on eBay for $2,399, memorializes the duo. It is a 2003 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts Combo Cuts book card and is a 1 of 1. It has autographs from the two trailblazers and some choice quotes from them about the game.

Branch says, "Baseball has given me a life of joy." Jackie says, "I've been riding on cloud nine since the election... on being inducted into the Hall of Fall.

Trolling Twitter for Dodger Pics- Protest & Attendance

As some of you know, today is the McCourt boycott at Dodger Stadium. It's a warm Saturday afternoon and it appears that some Dodger Blue fans are voicing their opinions with their feet, voices and wallets. Now, I ain't out there myself so I decided to run around twitter for a bit to see what may be shakin'. So without further adieu, here are some twitter pics from the happenings in and around Dodger Stadium.

Molly Knight of ESPN takes this pic of some of the protesters.
150+ Dodger fans protesting McCourt. Crowd chanting "Don't go in!" Horns honking in support.

Here is another pic of the protest crowd from @Truckn_Around.

Jon Weisman of Dodger Thoughts also captured some protestors.

Here's another from Jon. This time of his favorite protest sign.

Now here is the million dollar question. Is the protest having an effect on attendance today? Clearly, it is. Jon Weisman shows a crowd of less than 10,000 at the game.

Here are some more pics showing how empty the stadium is today.

Daily Conlon: #165 Lefty O'Doul - In 1921 I Hit 19 Men - On Purpose

Here is today's Daily Conlon featuring card numbered 165 of Lefty O'Doul. This is the first of the "Great Stories" cards within the set, and its a woozy. Lefty talks about a time when men where men, and players worked things out on the field between themselves. They certainly didn't need the umps or the front office getting in the way.
"When I pitched for San Francisco in 1921 I hit 19 men. On Purpose. Then when I became an outfielder the shoe was pm the other foot."
And he took it like a man. Read the back of the card below for more, and click on the pic below to embiggen.
