Dodgers Blog Kiosk: 7/16/2012

With both Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier back in the lineup it's nice to see their tools in their proper place.  Pic via twitter @Dodgers on instagram.
Yes, they're interested, but they appear to be something of a longshot to make a deal with the Phillies. The Dodgers have spoken to the Phillies about Hamels, sources said Sunday, but the Phillies aren't thrilled with the players the Dodgers could offer in return.
"Going forward, I still feel good about us offensively and defensively, that's the bright spot," Capuano said, adding that the Dodgers have had "two tough losses, but we'll get after the Phillies."

  • As many have already learned, there was a recent significant vintage Baseball card find publicized last week.  It includes an approximate 700 card find of Near Mint E98 caramel Baseball cards,.  That alone is unprecedented, and as collector Keith Olbermann notes on his card blog this will have the effect of pushing down values for the cards already in collectors hands.
  • Gaslamp Ball has a video up from the Zombie Walk event in San Diego this past weekend.  This sounds like it was a lot of fun.
  • HBO's Real Sports will have Matt Kemp as a guest in this weeks upcoming show.  It will air on Tuesday.  Check out the below video for some early highlights. (Hat Tip: LA Blue Crew)

McHale's Navy Cards: A Tribute to Ernest Borgnine

I am sorry to be posting so late after the death of actor Ernest Borgnine a week ago.  He was 95, and one of my favorite actors.

I will always remember him for his role as Dutch in the movie western "The Wild Bunch" and as Major General Worden in "The Dirty Dozen".  The one show that really jumps out at me, though was his part as Lieutenant Commander McHale in McHale's Navy.  I loved that show, and jumped at the first opportunity to get a vintage 1965 Fleer McHale's Navy trading card set several years back.  In honor of Ernest Borgnine, I thought I would scan and post up the complete set to share.  Both the front and reverse of the cards are shown.  Click any pic to embiggen.

This set was produced by Fleer in 1965 and consist of 66 black & white cards.
