Vintage Night Gets a Vintage Press Release

As many of you are aware, this coming Thursday game against the Braves will be the first of six vintage throwback jersey nights for the Dodgers. They will be wearing 1940 era powder blue satin looking jerseys. Well, it has been announced that our opponents for these games will also be wearing vintage throwback jerseys for the game.

Better yet, the Dodgers PR group released this information on vintage looking letterhead. Check it out above and click on the pic to enlarge it.

Considering the lengths the Dodgers have already gone I wonder if we should be expecting some other treats during the game. Maybe an organ only game? How about ushers wearing straw hats. Maybe a Sym-Phony Band will make an appearance playing tunes like "Three Blind Mice" when the umpires come out. Or a Emmet Kelley "Bum" look-alike meandering around the stadium. The possibilities are endless.

Auto Collection: Yhency Brazoban

Where did Yhency Brazoban go? He looked so promising as a reliever. Heck, he recorded 21 saves a few years back for the Dodgers. Then, the bottom fell out. In 2006 he hurt his elbow and had Tommy John surgery. To make matters worse, he hurt it again in 2007 and later on in 2008 while in the minors. As you might expect, he was subsequently released. Fortunately, his Baseball spirit lives on. Last year he started out in the Mexican League, was signed by the Mets soon thereafter, and then signed as a free agent with the Rangers for this season. Brazoban current plays for their AAA team in Round Rock.

Here is another addition to my collection of Diamond Kings autographed cards. This one is from 2005 and is numbered 58 out of 100.
Funny thing is that I happen to have the original painting for this card. Check it out below.

The Jerry Sands Era Starts Early

This is pretty big news for fans keeping an eye towards Albuquerque. One of our top offensive prospects, Jerry Sands, has just been called up to be our regular left fielder (I state this since you don't bring up a guy like this to sit on the bench while risking waivers on another prospect you are sending down). What makes this especially notable is that it appears to have been originally announced on the Dodgers Twitter feed first. I only state this since MLB Trade Rumors- who always seems to be on the ball when it comes to this -made note of that fact.
From MLB Trade Rumors-
Sands, 23, has five home runs and a .400/.422/.875 line in the early going at Triple-A. Albuquerque is a good place to hit, but Sands' power should translate to other parks. He hit 35 homers in Double-A and Class A last year, posting a .981 OPS in 590 total plate appearances. He placed sixth on Baseball America's preseason list of top Dodgers prospects because of his "plus power to all fields." He profiles as a solid everyday left fielder or first baseman, according to BA.
Let's hope his hot start in Albuquerque translates into immediate success in LA. We could really use the help.
