  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1947 Yankees hurler Bill Bevins was one out from no-hitting the Brooklyn Dodgers in Game 4 of the World Series before yielding a walk-off two-run double to pinch-hitter Cookie Lavagetto, 3-2. In 1951 Bobby Thompson of the NY Giants hit the most infamous home run in Dodgers/Baseball history. He walloped a Ralph Branca pitch in the ninth inning at the Polo Grounds for a walk-off victory, 5-4, during the deciding game of a three-game series to decide who would go to the World Series. The homer has since been dubbed the "shot heard ’round the world." You can watch it here, if you must. In 2005 manager Jim Tracy is fired by the Dodgers.

On the day by day mentality in the regular season:
We were so focused and we had so much fun. But now the real fun starts. That shows why the Dodgers have won 7 divisions in row. With the talent comes victories but there's more to it and this group has it.

  • Via Ron Cervenka at Think Blue LA -- ‘Kenley’s our closer’
Question: “How would you assess Kenley Jansen heading into the postseason? Is there a scenario where someone else could pitch the ninth inning?”
Roberts: “I don’t see that ninth inning. I know Kenley’s our closer. I don’t see that as an option. And the goal is to get outs, and he understands that. I think that the way that he’s throwing the baseball, he’s shown that recently. And for him to just stay focused and execute pitches, we’ll bet on the results. And he’s done it and I want him to have the ball at the end of the game.”
“I think, obviously, all three of our guys deserve the opportunity to pitch the first game,” Roberts said. “We just felt that Walker getting an opportunity to pitch the first game, also potentially a Game 5, gives us the best chance to win — regardless of the opponent.”
“He always shows up in the big stage,” said Kenley Jansen. “Nothing rattles him. That’s what’s good about him. He just continues to attack. He’s not afraid of any situation.”

  • Wow! A shoe deal. Per Business Wire -- "Los Angeles All-Star Clayton Kershaw Signs on to Pitch Skechers."
“I’ve spent my entire career here in Los Angeles, so it feels perfect that I’m partnering with Skechers—a Los Angeles original since 1992,” said Clayton Kershaw. “I’ve been working with the design team on several styles, and I am extremely impressed with the performance and comfort offered by Skechers. We have some unexpected and exciting ideas that fans will love.”
