Orioles Series Starts on Monday - Pregame Info and Other Stuff!


The next series starts on Monday evening against the Baltimore Orioles.  Below are the some odds and ends for this upcoming homestand.

The seventh 2016 issue of the new Dodger Insider magazine, featuring a salute to the Old-Timers Game on the cover, will be available at Dodger Stadium.  (see it on the left).  The Dodgers merged their previously separate Playbill and Dodger Insider magazines into one publication (at least 80 pages per issue) with a new edition available each homestand.  They are distributed at auto gates (one per vehicle) and via Fan Services for those who use alternate transportation.

Happy 4th of July!  Monday's game starts at 6:10 PM.  Auto gates open at 3:40 PM, and stadium gates open at 3:40 PM.  There will be a special bald eagle pregame performance by Chinook and Anami of the LA Zoo, and a postgame Independence Day Fireworks show.

As part of the Dodgers’ Independence Day celebration the 4th of July Firecracker Dog will be available at the Extreme Loaded Dog concession areas located on the field, loge and reserve levels. It features a quarter-pound, all-beef hot dog topped with spicy nacho cheese, pickled jalapeños and flaming hot Cheetos.

All five branches of the U.S. military – Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines Corps and Navy – will be at Dodger Stadium to unveil the American flag. They will be joined by a U.S. Army, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marine Corps color guard.

U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jeff Smith of Los Angeles, a multi-talented vocalist and recording artist whose voice can be heard on television and film soundtracks and who has toured the U.S. and the world with acapella group “m-pact,” will perform the national anthem. Smith is an Army veteran and commander and conductor of the 300th Army Band.

U.S. Air Force Reserve Major Dan Rooney, who is the founder of the Folds of Honor, a fighter pilot with three combat tours in Iraq, a PGA professional and the father of five girls, will throw the ceremonial first pitch. Rooney is the recipient of the White House’s Presidential Volunteer Service Award, the PGA of America’s Patriot Award and has been recognized as a CNN Hero and “ABC World News Tonight” Person of the Year for his efforts to provide educational scholarships to families of fallen and disabled service members.
  • The Military Hero of the Game is U.S. Army Sergeant Evelyn Araiza of Los Angeles. Araiza enlisted in 2002 after the September 11 attacks. Her first assignment was with the 82nd Airborne Division, where she worked as an intelligence analyst. Araiza deployed three times to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She currently serves as a Senior Enlisted Advisor with the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base and also attends the University of Norwich, where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Araiza’s accolades include two Bronze Stars and the Combat Action Badge. She was also selected to serve as a Cultural Support Team Member supporting the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force in Afghanistan.

Tuesday's game starts at 7:10 PM.  Auto gates open at 4:40 PM, and stadium gates open at 5:10 PM.  The first 40,000 fans in attendance will receive a #39 Roy Campanella Retired Numbers Pin.  See it on the right.

It is Korea Night at Dodger Stadium.  Folks who ordered a special ticket package will get an exclusive Korea Night T-shirt with your ticket.  See that on the left.  If not already sold out go here for information.

“It’s very special when the Dodgers host Korea Nights here at the stadium,” said Dodger pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu. “I’ve been a part of them for four years now and it’s an honor that these high-profile guests from Korea visit our stadium to celebrate this event with us.”

Asian superstar Ji-Sung, Korea’s 2015 actor of the year, will throw the ceremonial first pitch. Both the national anthems of Korea and the U.S. will be performed by popular recording artist Kim Tae Woo, a long-time member of KPOP group g.o.d. KTO will also present recognition plaques to both Hyun-Jin Ryu and Hyun Soo Kim of the Baltimore Orioles for sharing Korean culture through baseball.

Pregame festivities will include a Tae Kwon Do demonstration by Xplore, a global touring team with the highest level of martial arts. Following the pregame ceremonies, both Ji-Sung and Kim Tae Woo will  sign autographs for fans at the KTO tent in the right-field plaza at 7:30 p.m.  Levy Restaurants will offer Jinro’s Soju in Asian Breeze and Gold Rush flavors at Hite locations in reserve level section 13 and loge level section 109.  Both can be purchased in a Dodger souvenir half-yard cup. 
  • The Military Hero of the Game is U.S. Army First Sergeant Dong Hyun Kim, a native of Seoul, South Korea who was raised in Wyndmoor, PA. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after high school graduation and initially served as an artilleryman in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, KY, and the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment at Ft. Carson, CO. Kim has deployed to Bosnia during the Balkans conflict and received numerous accolades while leading in the Artillery Regiment. For the past 15 years, he has served at the U.S. Army Recruiting Command and has been stationed in Garden Grove, CA, Houston, TX, Seattle, WA, Honolulu, HI, and is currently stationed in Los Angeles as the First Sergeant of the Los Angeles Army Recruiting Company covering Burbank, Pasadena, downtown L.A. and Koreatown. Kim’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaves, Army Achievement Medal with four oak leaves, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Medal, Overseas Ribbon, and the NATO Medal.

Wednesday's game starts at 12:10 PM.  Auto gates open at 9:40 AM, and stadium gates open at 10:10 AM.  The first 15,000 kids 14 years old or younger in attendance will receive a Kids Locker Nameplate.  See it on the right.
  • The Military Hero of the Game is retired U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Marcus D. Chischilly of San Diego. Chischilly deployed four times in combat zones, three times to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2010, during a firefight with Taliban enemy forces, Chischilly stepped on a 25-pound pressure plated improvised explosive device (I.E.D.) which destroyed parts of his left leg and left severe shrapnel wounds to his arms and right thigh. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in action. Chischilly’s accolades include the National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan.
