The 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers Photo Pack

Here is another new addition to my collection. Featured here is the complete twelve picture set of the 1955/56 Brooklyn Dodgers Photo Pack. Measuring 5" x 7", blank backed and printed on white glossy paper stock, these photos were sold at Ebbets Field concession stands (possibly by mail order, as well). They appear to have been manufactured by an outfit called Jay Publishing (some collectors disagree with this) and were originally sold in a paper envelope with the words "Twelve WORLD CHAMPION Dodgers PHOTOS" printed in blue.

There is some uncertainty regarding the exact year of issue. Standard Catalogs from different years by Krause publications indicates that they are from the 1955 season or the 1956 season - depending on what year catalog you have. Other sources swear by the 1956 date. The later date (1956) makes more sense considering the printing on the envelope the photos came in. Since my set did not come with the original envelope I grabbed a photo of it (via In the Park Collectibles - note that they state that they are from 1955) online. See it at the very bottom.

Below are scans of the rest of the set. BTW, this is far from rare and can be purchased relatively cheaply. Since my set is not mint (there are wrinkles and children's notes on the reverse of some of them) I suspect it would probably sell for about $100. Not cheap by any means, but certainly worth it when you consider its age and the numerous Hall of Famers within.

Furthermore, a companion set exist that consist of 25 Dodgers photos (including Sandy Koufax) that were sold during either (or both) the 1955 or 1956 World Series. That set is called the Brooklyn Dodgers World Series Photo Pack.

Should you have more information about this set please pass that knowledge along.

  1. I’ve got the entire pack including the envelope. The pictures are mint. The envelop is fine but not mint.
My dad and I were at a game at Ebbets Field in 1956 and her bought the pack for me for the posted price of $.25.
Willing to sell for the right price.
