Blog Kiosk: 7/29/2019 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Check out some celebrating Dodgers' following their pennant clinching victory over the Phillies on September 23, 1952 (eBay auction link). Can you name them all?

Below are more links to check out:
Originally acquired from the D’Backs last August, Negron has appeared in 27 total games for Seattle, including nine outings this season.  The 33-year-old has a career .216/.289/.328 slash line over 357 career MLB plate appearances in parts of six seasons, though his ability with the bat is much less important to the Dodgers than the versatility that Negron brings in the field.
“I didn’t grow up with dogs,” Rizzo says. “Guidry absolutely changed my life. He’s very smart, just a brilliant dog. I didn’t know what wonderful, soulful creatures dogs are.”
The foundation’s goal, Rizzo says, is to rescue as many dogs as possible off the street. She has enjoyed the thrill of seeing a dog’s complete transformation.
“From moments away from death’s door to having a thriving existence,” she says.
  • Check out what's coming to auction in November. Rachel Cormack at the Robb Report tells us that a Babe Ruth Dodger uniform is coming to auction soon -- "Babe Ruth’s Brooklyn Dodgers Coaching Uniform Could Fetch Up to $500,000 at Auction." It'll be sold on November 14th through Julien's Auctions. See it on the right.
  • Via Michael Rosen at SF Gate -- "Dodgers' special assistant could replace Bochy as Giants manager, report says."
Baggarly told KNBR's Larry Krueger that (Raul) Ibañez is a name he's heard mentioned in discussions about potential Bochy replacements, pointing to his communication skills as a major reason for his candidacy.
"[Ibañez] is somebody who is really positive, connects with players very well, he's special assistant in the Dodgers system right now," Baggarly told KNBR. "He is another name that I've heard that will probably be part of an interview process when it gets to that stage."
May allowed one run across six innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He allowed three hits and two walks while collecting six strikeouts. May has pitched well against hitters in the upper minors this season, sporting a sub-3 ERA during his time in the offensive-oriented Pacific Coast League.
Of all the spring training games through the 1996 season between the two teams and the handful of regular-season interleague games between the teams each year starting in 1997, the first time the Dodgers and Angels met on a baseball diamond happened in Palm Springs on April 2, 1962. The game was hosted by the Angels, in their second year of existence and their second year of holding spring training in Palm Springs. The visiting team was the Dodgers, traveling back to the Los Angeles area from their spring training home in Vero Beach, Fla.
While most spring training games are relatively meaningless, merely giving players a chance to work on their timing or smooth out some rough spots in their games, the first Dodgers-Angels matchup felt at little different. The game was even attended by perhaps the most famous resident of the desert at the time, former President Dwight Eisenhower., part of a record crowd of 5,181 for the stadium.
