Blog Kiosk: 8/9/2019 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

I think I preferred Kershaw's 1980's retro outfit from last year (see pic on the right).

As you surely know, Clayton's annual Ping Pong4Purpose event was held last night at Dodger Stadium, and by the looks of it fun was had by all. Per Rowan Kavner at Dodger Insider:
“It’s overwhelming just to see everybody that comes out,” Kershaw said. “To get such a great turnout from teammates and to get to have them all here and playing and enjoying themselves and a part of it, it really is a special thing. It makes this night go.”
BTW, proceeds from the event will go to benefit Kershaw’s Challenge’s local and international beneficiaries, including the Dream Center, Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Arise Africa, Just Keep Livin’ Foundation, Both Ends Believing and International Justice Mission.

It’s easy to forget for a moment that this is Buehler’s first full major league season. The 2015 first-round pick of the Dodgers out of Vanderbilt, who underwent Tommy John surgery shortly after being drafted, had just 93.2 professional innings under his belt before making his major league debut on September 7, 2017, as part of the Dodgers’ unsuccessful plan to groom him for their postseason roster. He made three starts at Triple-A to begin last season before joining the Dodgers’ rotation on April 23, and with time off for a rib fracture and a workload slowdown, made 23 starts and one relief appearance totaling 137.1 innings in the regular season, finishing with a 2.62 ERA, 3.04 FIP, and 3.1 WAR.
The Dodgers' 25-year-old ace-in-the-making enters Friday's start with 152 strikeouts this season; he's walked only 20. He leads the Majors in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 7.60. It's Clayton Kershaw-like, from the pitcher who may one day take up Kershaw's mantle in Los Angeles.

No matter how much you love something, it's hard to avoid burnout. It happens to pretty much everyone. One day, you're trying to catch 'em all in Pokémon Gold and Silver like you have for the past year, and the next, you just don't feel that invested in the quest anymore.
A young Dodgers fan named Colt was going through a tough time this summer while taking a break from youth baseball. He was getting a little tired of it and thought that it might be time to call it a career, even though he was only 9.
