2020 Topps Project 2020 -- Sandy Koufax by Andrew Thiele

I really like this card.

Here is Andrew Thiele's rendition of Sandy Koufax's 1955 Topps card, and as you can see it includes some aspects of the original, but at the same time is wholly his own creation. Go here to check it out and order. A complete checklist of all the cards in the set can be found here. The reverse of the card is on the right.

I just love that Thiele incorporated the Ebbets Field facade on the card, while including splashes of what looks like vintage ticket stubs in the background. In fact, I think this card is ultimately an homage to Brooklyn, New York -- the original hometown of the Dodgers. Thiele once said (via Maria Gabriela Alvarez at Honey Suckle):
“New York City to the core is something that I represent, it’s something that’s in my bones, something that I really take in and that I love, you know, so from the texture to the signage to the posters, the people, I wanted all that to be embodied in the work.”

Below is a current Sandy Koufax checklist of Topps Project 2020 cards with their corresponding artist and print runs. This is the third Koufax card to be released so far.
