2013 Panini Cooperstown Baseball - The Other Dodgers' Inserts

Here are the remaining Dodger insert cards within the 2013 Panini Cooperstown Baseball set.  It's hard to beat the Colgan's Chip cards I showed yesterday, but the beauty of these cards come very close.

Unfortunately, there aren't many Dodger autographed cards available, but they make that up with some other sharp looking inserts.  See them below.

The below Cooperstown Lumberjacks cards are made of real wood.  Along with Zack Wheat cards, I decided to also show John Montgomery Ward in this Dodger list - even though he played only two season in Brooklyn.

Each player has 3 different versions available.  If you look closely there are slight differences with each one.

Another great insert set are these mini-pennants fashioned after the 1916 Ferguson Bakery BF2 Pennants.  Two Dodgers are available, Roy Campanella and Jackie Robinson, in two different colors.  I have not been able to track down a pic of a blue Campanella pennant.  BTW, there is also at 1980 HOF Induction pennant (#38) available that denotes the year Duke Snider was inducted.

2013 Panini Cooperstown Baseball - The Dodgers Colgan's Chip Disk

This might be the best insert set of the 2013 Baseball season.

Shown here are the 2013 Panini Cooperstown Baseball Colgan's Chip Disk of Dodger players.  These little cards copy a vintage set originally put out from 1909-1913 called Colgan’s Chips.  They are round and feature black & white photos; much like its vintage cousin.

Back in 2007 a large find of over 150 original vintage Colgan's Chip cards were uncovered.  It was dubbed "The Skydash Find" and was valued at over $1 Million.  See my original story about this find here.  It's a great story about how a family inherited the cards - not knowing what they had.  A family member shared their cards on a popular vintage card message board to find out their worth and were immediately harangued with questions.  Most knowledgeable collectors couldn't believe what they were reading, so they demanded photos.  Soon, those photos came to light and the hobby world swooned.

The best part about "The Skydash Find" story is how they almost got thrown in the trash.  Heck, only two boxes of cards survived the trash heap while another two boxes of memorabilia disappeared.  It is thought by the family that an original Babe Ruth signed jersey was tossed away.

You receive 1 disk in each pack of Cooperstown cards, and there are 165 total cards in the complete set.  So, sit back and enjoy the wonder of these modern cards below.

2013 Panini Cooperstown Baseball - Dodgers Base Set

Last week Panini released their 2013 Cooperstown Baseball card set, and it is impressive.  I really love the design, and the inclusion of Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully adds icing to the set.  Tomorrow, I'll share the various Dodger insert cards available.  They are even better then the base cards.

There are 7 Dodger cards to the base set, and as always there are numerous parallels available.  Check out all of the normal Dodger base cards below.

A New Vin Scully Baseball Card is Available

It's about time.

After nearly 65 years in the broadcast booth Vin Scully finally has a base card to call his own.  Officially released this past Wednesday, Panini put out their 2013 Cooperstown set and it includes Vin Scully in the base set.

He is card #65, which is appropriate since he'll be returning as the Dodgers television broadcaster for a record 65th year next season.

Even better, since he is in the base set there are numerous parallels available.  The normal card is a dark brown bordered card, and there are another 6 different parallel cards to chase after.  Featured below is the "Blue Crystal Shard" parallel card numbered to just 499 copies.

Blog Kiosk: 7/29/2013 - Dodgers Links - Puig, Ryu and Dee Gordon

I love this group of pics featuring Puig's home run.  Photo via Dodgers tumblr.  Check out even more pics from yesterday afternoon from Jon SooHoo here.
"He's adjusted very well and is pitching very well," Park told MLB.com from Cooperstown, N.Y. "I think he enjoys it very much. I'm very proud and enjoy watching him."
  • Naver.com has a whole bunch of pics focused on the matchup between Ryu and Choo.
  • "Choo-Ryu matchup a big draw for S. Korean population, via Mark Sheldon at MLB.com.
"I like to see a lot of Korean fans because I've played in Cleveland and Cincinnati, where there aren't a lot of Korean people," Choo said. "It's quiet -- no media, no fans. But here, it's like a small Korea."
“At first it was tough because I’m aggressive, I like to play hard, stuff like that,” Gordon said. “So it was tough at first but I’ve got good coaches who are helping me a lot. I’m just glad they’re taking the patience and time with me.”
“Obviously, it’s still going on, his temperature’s going up and down,” Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly said of the .289 hitter who’s stolen 10 bases this season. “Still fighting off an infection … sometimes antibiotics kick in and you know you’re good.”
"We're trying to corral it a little bit, but without putting too many restrictions on him," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "As you get into big games, any game can be the game it costs you, so we just want him to understand situations."
