Rejected by Doumit

This makes me feel like the ugly duckling. Was it a matter of price, or are we just not wanted?

LA Times writer Mike DiGiovanna has the scoop on a Dodger pursuit, their offer, and subsequent rejection.

"We're becoming more numerically oriented," Colletti said. "We've always kept it as part of the mix, but there's so much more information now and its value is proven. It's not just theory any more. It's more of a foundation, along with scouting, as part of evaluation. For me it's 50-50.
  • I could support Bulldog. Orel Hershiser's Serious About Dodgers, via ESPN/Ramona Shelbourne.
"I'm as serious as my heart beats," Hershiser told ESPNLosAngeles.com. "The next step in the process is to be approved by baseball to bid on the team. We think with the people we have in place and the assets we have in place, we will be a serious contender."
  • McCourt sale announcement means increased ticket sales, via LA Times/Bill Shaikin.
According to the person familiar with the team's business, McCourt's sale announcement triggered a wave of calls from fans interested in buying tickets and receiving assurances the reduced prices for 2012 would be honored by a new owner.

eBay: Winter Baseball

This vintage press photo is dated April 15, 1950 is on eBay and features Carl Furillo taking a swing at a snowball as Roy Campanella mans his position at catcher. With no game possible because of inclement weather, this will have to do. From the press clipping on the reverse:
Carl Furillo (right), Brooklyn Dodgers outfielder, wings a shovel and hits a snowball on the snow-covered diamond at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York, April 14, after the game between the Dodgers and the New York Yankees was called off because of the weather. Joining in with Furillo in the "game" is catcher Roy Campanella.

2011 Topps Tier 1- Dodger Relic Cards

Following up on my past two post (here, here) focused on Dodger Tier 1 cards, here are some of the relic (game-used) cards found in packs. As always, there are many different variations/parallels available.

Sandy Koufax

Roy Campanella

Pee Wee Reese

I hadn't shown this one previously. It is a dual signature card of Dee Gordon and Cubs rookie Starlin Castro.

A Golden Night for the Gold Glovers

New York was hopping last night. They held the Gold Glove Awards ceremony there and our favorite Dodgers were on hand to celebrate. Through the magic of twitter we can sit in on the fun. Here's a closer look at the prize.

You sure can't go wrong with Jerry Seinfeld at the mic.

But, before we start the show, how about a glimpse at some of the attendees. Here is Tommy Lasorda and Brandon Phillips getting together for a pose.

Yogi Berra and wife, Carmen, take in the festivities.

Of Course, Tommy has to come over to joke with his old nemesis.

Our three Dodgers Gold Glovers take a group picture.

Andre Ethier poses with another fan.

Matt Kemp and Dave Winfield are seated together at the dinner and they enjoy some laughs.

Here are a couple of post awards photos. Brandon Phillips and good friend, Matt Kemp, show off their new hardware.

Then they decide to test them out.

Posing With Your Idols

Here are some great vintage Dodger snapshots I found on eBay of a lucky fan posing with his Baseball idols. From the 1950's. I can't help but wonder at how great a moment this must have been for this kid.

Here is Gil Hodges.
