Check out this great new Dodger blog (new to me anyways) that focuses on this one fans collection of Dodger autographs. It's called Hawaiian Bam Bam's Dodger Baseball Card Blog, and this collector has autographs of nearly 500 different Dodgers.
Even during Spring Training Don Drysdale sports his game face. You can see the immense intensity and pure hatred he had of the opposing batter when he pitches. Below is a March 9, 1963 Associated Press wire photo.
With the Dodger season coming to an uneventful close all that is left to look forward to, for me, is the start of the hockey season. It should be an exciting year on the ice as the Kings look to be playoff contenders. In fact, this year is the most excited I've been about a Kings team in ages. Really!.... Last season I was only hoping to make the playoffs. This year, I actually believe they can go deep. And who knows, if things bounce our way we may find ourselves battling for that silver cup.
This coming Saturday is the first Kings event of the season, LA Kings Hockey Fest, so I plan on being there to check it out. Kings management will be taking questions during a "State of the Kings" conference and players from the past and present will be on hand to sign autographs.
In the meantime check out this great video that ushers in the new year and offers a short preview of what to expect and why we should be excited about the upcoming season. (Hat Tip: Surly & Scribe)
Through all the turmoil and disappointment that has been the 2010 Dodger season it's nice to be able to share a great moment with a player who has persevered through 16 minor league seasons. John Lindsey had his first Major League at-bat in this evenings game in Houston. In front of a contingent of family and friends, who drove in from Mississippi, Lindsey saw 3 pitches. Pitch number 3 was a fastball that he skied to right centerfield.
Check out the at-bat here. Also, see his official Baseball-Reference page here. He is now in the record books, and is expected to start in this coming Saturdays game.
