Dodgers First Round Pick Jeren Kendall Already has a Bunch of Cards

As member of the Team USA Collegiate Baseball team it is no surprise that the Dodgers 2017 first round pick, Jeren Kendall, already has a bunch of cards for fans and collectors to chase after. What I was surprised to find out is that he also has a couple cards from when he was just an high school prep star.

Featured below are all of the various cards issued for Jeren Kendal, and to start things off I share pics of a pair of 2013 Leaf Perfect Game cards. As you may know, this set was an inaugural issue that features the top 300 high school players in the country from an Perfect Game National Showcase event. Following that are a bunch of Panini cards featuring Kendall in a Team USA jersey.

Blog Kiosk: 6/16/2017 - Dodgers Links - Garvey at the Congressional Baseball Game

After all of the turmoil from the other day it was awfully nice that yesterdays annual Congressional Baseball Game turned out so well. A record crowd of almost 25,000 fans packed the stadiums lower bowl and cheered, rooted and gave standing ovations for just about everything. It was like Baseball has retaken its rightful place as America's unifying sport. BTW, Dodger legend Steve Garvey was also there to lend a hand and lead a prayer on the field before the game. Per Chuck Raasch at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
“Just here to support the guys and gals,” said Garvey, a long-time first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“It’s our national pastime,” he added. “If anything is bipartisan, it’s baseball.”
It is expected that the amount of money raised for charity, including literacy, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Capitol Police, will be near $1 million. As a side note, the final score from the match was very lopsided. The Dems defeated the Repubs 11-2. Photos above via Steve Garvey on his twitter.

BTW, the Dodgers six game winning was snapped yesterday afternoon. Oh well... Winning isn't everything. Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers History: In 1961 the Dodgers signed amateur free agent Roy Gleason. He would get a cup of coffee with the Dodgers in 1963 -- recording a double in his only at-bat and getting a World Series ring. Soon thereafter he would be drafted into the Army and be sent to Vietnam. Gleason would lose his World Series ring there, and becomes the only US Combat Veteran and former Major League Baseball player to receive "Special Congressional Recognition" for being awarded a "Purple Heart", a World Series Ring, and holding a "Perfect" Lifetime Major League Batting Average. In 1963 rookie pitcher Nick Willhite shut out the Cubs, 2-0, and become the first Los Angeles pitcher for throw a shutout in his Major League debut. In 1977 the Dodgers purchased right-handed reliever and Los Angeles native Bobby Castillo from the Kansas City Royals.

2017 Topps Series 2 - All the Dodgers Base Cards

Here is a look at all of the Dodger base cards found in packs of 2017 Topps Series 2. Go here for a complete checklist. But before I show you those cards I thought I would mention that Clayton Kershaw happens to be this products spokesman. His steely-eyed stare is plastered on every single box. Featured above is a pic of an hobby box.

Now here are the Dodgers base cards.

This Just Might be the Best Dodgers' Baseball Card of the Year

When I first saw this card a sudden warm feeling came over me. I was immediately transported back in time to that ballgame in late September - when the sun was shinning and the Dodgers had a sizable lead going into the last home game of the season.

With Kiké's help, along with a little bit of luck, the Dodgers win their sixth straight.

The game was all tied up at two in the eight inning when Hernandez came up to the plate and put the Dodgers on top. Batting against reliever Andrew Miller, who hadn't given up a homer all season along til the Dodgers came to town, he hit a lazy flyball to right field that sailed all the way into the stands. Per Rowan Kavner at Dodger Insider:
“It was kind of an emergency swing,” Kiké Hernández said afterward to SportsNet LA’s Alanna Rizzo. “Thank God we’re in Cleveland and not LA. That might’ve been an out at home.”
Thereafter, the Dodgers trounced. They quickly loaded the bases, scored three more runs and left the game in the capable hands of Kenley Jansen for the victory. He recorded his 202nd save of his career.
