"Respect to the game, teammates, the organization, fans," Mattingly said, expanding on his baseball beliefs. "It's all about respect -- how we play.

"What do I think of the experience of going through all this? It hasn't been that bad, honestly. I think I have a pretty good understanding of what goes on.
“Man, I was just frustrated,” Kemp said. “It had been a bad day for me. I really didn’t do much to help the team win. It is what it is. It’s over now.”

Kemp denied he was yelling directly at Mattingly.

“I was just shouting,” he said.
In between playing baseball, Snider's main duty on the USS Sperry was dishwashing detail. "There was a porthole behind the sink and any time we came across a chipped glass or dish that wouldn't come clean in less than a second we fired the sucker into the Pacific Ocean."
“They wanted to make a big splash with the new ownership,” said an American League executive. “They wanted to show their fans they were going to spend the money and put what they thought was the best team on the field money could buy. Well, not so much. You can win with All-Star teams. The Yankees have won with one. But the mix has to be right.”
