Jackie Robinson Correspondence to a Brooklyn Dodgers Fan

With the seasons start around the corner and Jackie Robinson day soon to follow, I thought I would take a moment to share a couple personal letters I ran into written by Jackie to an adoring fan.  In fact, the letter wasn't written to just any fan. These two letters were written to Margaret "Peggy" Dwyer - President of the Pee Wee Reese and Duke Snider fan clubs.  (Auction link here and here)

As you can see, these letters were written on Jackie's own personal letterhead, and in both he expresses great admiration for his teammate Pee Wee Reese.  Check out what he wrote below:

The letter on the top left:
Dear Peggy,
Pee Wee is the best shortstop in the National League so naturally I would rather have him play along side of me.  It would be my good luck if Pee Wee did come to NY and would be on the prgram.  He's on of the nicest guys I have ever met.

Its not hard to say what (Johnny) Schmitz has on us.  He is a very good pitcher and every time we play the Cubs they are tough.
The letter on the top right:
Dear Peg,
Thank you for your very nice letter.  We are proud to have such an ardent rooter cheering us on and hope that we are able to win for you.  I know that Pee Wee is glad you are pulling for him to hit 300 and I (unintelligible) he is not only a swell ballplayer but a great fellow.  I am proud to be playing alongside of him.  As for the fastest pitcher its hard to say but I think Palica is just as fast as the others you mentioned.

I expect to have a program this winter and would like very much to have "Pee Wee" on but I am afraid he will be in Louisville by the time it starts.

I guess thats about all I can say except it was very nice hearing from you.
BTW, you can see Peggy in the below photo.  She is seated on the right side next to Pee Wee Reese.
