Blog Kiosk: 10/27/2017 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

For those who don'e already know, tonight's Game 3 of the World Series in Houston will start at 5:20 PM PT this evening. In fact, all future games in the series has had the start times adjusted to begin at that same time.

  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1890, the Brooklyn Bridegrooms (Dodgers), in their first season as a member of the National League, lost Game 6 of an World Series against the Louisville Colonels of the American Association, 9-8.  The loss shrank the Dodgers lead in the series to 3-2-1 -- Game 3 ended in a 7-7 tie due to darkness.  Game 7 will be played the next day.

  • This is one of my favorite things about the Dodgers. Per David Waldstein at the NY Times; "With a Crowd of Diverse Faces, Dodger Stadium Stands Out."
Assumptions about someone’s ethnic identity can prove false, and much of the available evidence about the diversity at Dodger Stadium is anecdotal. Stan Kasten, the Dodgers’ president, said he had no statistical data regarding the ethnic composition of the fans at Dodger Stadium. Still, he said the team cherished that its fan base was noticeably diverse.
“We are very proud of it,” Kasten said. “This is the organization of Jackie Robinson. The Dodgers were at the forefront, not only of breaking the color barrier, but we historically scoured the globe to find players. The Dodgers were the first to build an academy in the Dominican Republic. We’re a global team, and that is something that’s reflected in the stadium, too.”
  • ICYMI: Both Yasiel Puig and Corey Seager are finalist for a Gold Glove Award. The winners will be announced on ESPN on November 7th.
  • Blowout Buzz lets us know about a new Topps set coming out for the holidays. It will be called 2017 Topps Holiday and it appears it'll be part of an in-story hobby promotion beginning on November 17th. Check out a Bellinger card on the right. Go here for more information.

  • Here's an old fiend alert. Per Steve Adams at MLB Trade Rumors; "Reds Claim Micah Johnson Off Waivers."
  • BTW, Micah Johnson is becoming quite the prolific artist. He recently shared this fantastic mixed-use concoction featuring Jackie Robinson and a bunch of baseball that is incredible. See it below, via his own tweet:

  • Per Jim Callis at MLB.com; "Dodgers' Arizona Fall League overview: Peters' large stature lends to particularly big comparison."
Now (DJ) Peters, 21, is trying to build on that progress with the Arizona Fall League's Glendale Desert Dogs. Though he never has played nine straight months of baseball without a break, he's enjoying what he calls the roller coaster of professional baseball.
"A hundred and forty games goes by pretty fast in the grand scheme of things, but I had a lot of fun," Peters said. "I ended the year up in Tulsa, which is a lot of fun as well. I just love every single minute of this, being able to play for the hometown team I grew up cheering for is an absolute blessing."
