Blog Kiosk: 12/28/2018 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

  • I'm glad the 'Giant' lost! Per Jordan Shusterman at Cut4; "Clayton Kershaw and Ross Stripling finally defeated Farhan Zaidi in the Dodgers fantasy football league."

  • It's not often you get a story about a prospect getting his first Baseball card. Per Ted Schultz at The Republic; "In the Cards / North graduate, Dodgers farmhand featured on baseball card."
"It’s been really cool to have my first card," (Devin) Mann said. "It’s been interesting how it’s transpired. It’s not something everybody gets to do."
...
After being drafted, Mann played two games with the Dodgers Arizona Rookie League club, going 1 for 5. He spent the rest of the season with the Great Lakes Loons, a Class A team in Midland, Michigan, and batted .241 with 13 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 30 RBIs.
"It went really well," Mann said. "It was a good springboard for the season coming up."
“The most important thing for me was I wanted to be comfortable, close to home and on a team that puts the best, high-quality product on the field and is dedicated to winning year in and year out,” Kelly said. “And that’s what the Dodgers organization is. It’s one of those things where the front office is going to give the fans and the team the most talent and the most pieces they can to put a winning product on the field, and then obviously it’s on the players after that.”
“As he told me,” Verducci says, “He could not lift weights upper-body wise through the rest of that season, he lost weight, didn’t have the same kind of power. He was compromised even throwing on defense, he had to compromise by playing much more shallow.”
“The numbers in ‘16 really are a function of the injury.”
