Just Another Jackie to Chase

As if I don't already have enough on my wantlist, Topps recently unveiled a new Jackie Robinson card that can be found in the 2011 Topps Series 2 boxes. It is redemption #3 and is suppose to be available at your local hobby store with the submission of the below redemption card at participating stores.

Another Koufax Sketch Card

Here is another 2011 Topps Series 2 sketch card of Sandy Koufax. This time it is a reproduction of his 1966 Topps card. It has been drawn by Brian Kong.

2011 Topps Series 2 Dodger Inserts

Following up on my post from yesterday featuring 2011 Topps Series 2 Dodger base cards, here are a bunch of the Dodger insert cards I received.

There are 4 different Dodgers in the Topps 60 Series 2 insert card. They are of Clayton Kershaw, Roy Campanella, Jackie Robinson and Sandy Koufax. Check them out below, both front and backs.
The below 5 mini cards are the nicest of them all. Here are all 5 Dodger Kimball Champions.
Here are a couple of Diamond Duos insert cards of a couple of Dodgers. I think that the comparison between Kershaw and Koufax is apt (time will tell, of course), but somehow comparing Kershaw with a Giant just doesn't sit well. Come on now, Madison Bumgarner? Really.

2011 Topps Series 2 Dodgers

I recently received my winnings from the case break I participated in through the "A Cardboard Problem" case break. Check out the Dodger base cards and various short prints below.

Here are the Dodger base cards in the Series 2 set.
Of the 9 cards above I really liked the card back from the Matt Kemp card. See it below. How can you go wrong with Duke Snider calling you a potential Hall of Famer, and considering the kind of season Kemp is having so far I think he is well on his way.
Here is the coolest Dodger base card. It is the Dodger team card featuring both Kemp and Andre Ethier with their Silver Slugger Awards.
This is the reverse of the Dodger team card.
In the Series 2 set there are 25 short prints of future and current Hall of Famers. I was fortunate to get the Sandy Koufax short print in the case break, but missed out on the other two Dodgers available- Pee Wee Reese and Duke Snider. I also received the Koufax Platinum Diamond Anniversary. See them both below.
Here is the back side of the Koufax card.
Other than the Platinum Diamond Anniversary parallel there are also a bunch of other parallels available; such as black border, platinum border, printing plates, canary diamond and gold border cards. Below is the gold border Hiroki Kuroda card I received.

A Topps Sketch Card Sneak Peak from Chuck Braud

Last week I featured a 2011 Topps Sketch Series 2 card of Sandy Koufax drawn by Baton Rouge artist Chuck Braud. It was his 1956 Topps card, and is up to nearly $200 on eBay. As a result of that post, he shared with me a couple more Dodger sketch cards he made for Topps that have yet to show up online. Check them out below.

Here is a 1960 Topps card drawing of Sandy Koufax.

Here is a really nice 1952 Topps card of Pee Wee Reese.

Thank you, Chuck, for passing these along.

Some More Dodger Sketch Cards

I was wrong. There are actually a whole bunch of Sandy Koufax sketch cards in the 2011 Topps Series 2 boxes, and they are starting to show up on eBay. I've captured them below for you to enjoy. On top of that, a Series 1 sketch card of Jackie Robinson is also on eBay.

This one is really nicely done. It is a drawing of Sandy's 1965 Topps card, and is drawn by Brian Kong.

Here is a Koufax fashioned after his 1955 Topps card.

Here is the Jackie Robinson card fashioned after his 1952 Topps card that was found in a series 1 pack. It was drawn by Kevin Graham.

Here is a great video from Topps spokesman Alan Narz explaining the Topps sketch card and its history.

2011 Topps Series 2: Dodgers Inserts

Since I didn't get any big hits in the 2011 Topps Series 2 case break I participated in I thought I would show some of them in this post taken from auctions on eBay. Below are the Topps 60 relic cards of Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella and Clayton Kershaw.
Here are the leather nameplates with Campy and Sandy Koufax, and the black leather Koufax. I've read that a lot of fans hate these cards, and I guess I can't blame them. They are manufactured cards that are not game used, and collectors tend to think they don't deserve being labeled as major box hits. I dunno. I guess since I've never held one in my hands I can't really say if I like them or not. All I do know is that I wouldn't mind a Koufax card, but I know I wouldn't pay a lot for it.

The Other Koufax Topps Series 2 Sketch Card

Well, you might as well stop opening packs of 2011 Topps Series 2. The second, and last, Sandy Koufax sketch card has been pulled and is now on eBay. It is fashioned after his 1956 Topps card, and is drawn by Chuck Braud. Like the earlier sketch card I blogged about I made a bid, but I expect it to sell well beyond my means.

A Topps Koufax Sketch Card

As some of you already know, Topps 2011 Series 2 cases are now live and being ripped open throughout the country. I bought in on a Series 2 Jumbo case break through A Cardboard Problem blog yesterday evening, snatching the Dodgers, so as soon as they arrive I will feature the Dodger base cards and any hits I get. In the meantime, I thought I would point to a great card that just popped up on eBay.

As you may know, "1 of 1" sketch cards have been inserted in this years boxes and one certain Dodger was made. As you can see above (and below) the sketch card is of Sandy Koufax, and it's glorious. It's so nice I even placed a bid on it, so please don't do the same. I don't need the competition... Heck, who am I kidding? It will probably hit 3 figures (if not more), and that will be out of my price range, so I have no shot at it.

Anyway, check it out in all its glory. It was hand drawn by Brian Kong. See his website here. He has done a bunch of comic drawings for Acclaim, Tekno and Malibu Comics.

Damn... I would really love this card!
