2018 Topps Tribute - The Dodgers Autographed Cards

Here is a final last look at some of the Dodgers cards found in packs of Topps 2018 Tribute brand. Below are most of the autographed cards that are available. Unfortunately, quite a few of them have yet to show up online; especially the Career Tribute cards of Sandy Koufax. This set features 20 different autographed Koufax cards, and they are all "1 of 1's".

Blog Kiosk: 4/5/2018 - Dodgers Links - Go Kings Go!

WooHoo!

The second season is about to begin, and to my utter surprise the Kings are in. I just didn't think they had a chance this season, but they proved me wrong.

Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers History: In 1913 25,000 fans watched the Dodgers play their first game in their new home, Ebbets Field. It was an exhibition match that saw Brooklyn defeat the Yankees, 3-2. Superbas (Dodgers) outfielder Casey Stengel (the future famed Yankees manager) hit the first home run at the stadium -- an inside-the-park homer in the fifth inning. In 1977 the Dodgers signed free agent first baseman Boog Powell.

Weekend Autograph Opportunities: Ron Fairly, Stan Williams, Jay Johnstone & Tim Leary

Here are this weekends autograph opportunities and events throughout the Southland. As always, be sure to check the Blue Heaven Calendar for other events (a link can always be found on the tab at the top of this page, just left of center), and always confirm with the establishment. Everything is subject to change.  Please email me with any tips about upcoming events in Southern California.  As the rest of the week progresses I'll update this post with other events (if there are any) as I become aware of them.  Also, I don't always list every event below, so be sure to check my Calendar.  I always try to favor free signing events over paying events.  Click on any pic to embiggen.

Blog Kiosk: 4/4/2018 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

It's not often that you see an action photo like this from the early 20th century. Featured is an circa 1913 International News press photo of an unnamed Brooklyn Superbas/Dodgers player sliding into first base. It's hard to tell exactly what's going here, but it appears the batter was trying to avoid a close play at first, but the fielder chose to block the base as he scampered for the ball -- which is not to be seen anywhere. I assume there was some sort of throwing play at home plate -- maybe a bunt or pass ball/wild pitch on a third strike.

Anyway, the pic is currently at auction at RMY (auction link). If you happen to know who the players are please pass that along.

On another note, I remain unconcerned with the Dodgers. It's way too early to begin panicking. Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers History: In 1997 Mike Piazza reached base for the eight consecutive plate appearance -- he went 3-for-3 with a walk in a Dodgers win over the Pirates.  He would fly out his next at-bat the following day. In 2016 the Dodgers handed the Padres the worst Opening Day loss in Major League history since 1913. They beat them silly, 15-0. Go here for the boxscore.
  • Happy Birthday, John Hummel, Pete Kilduff, Joe Vosmik, Mickey Owen, Willie Ramsdell, Gil Hodges & Louis Coleman!

Welcome to the Blue, Zach Neal!

Considering last nights roller-coaster-of-a-game you shouldn't be surprised by this move. After all, our bullpen arms are a bit overtaxed. Announced just a moment ago, the Dodgers have called up 29-year old right-handed pitcher Zach Neal (#49) from Triple-A Oklahoma City. At the same time, reliever Josh Fields has been placed on paternity list (mazel tov!).

2018 Import Dragon Baseball Figurines - Cody Bellinger

To follow up on a 2017 Rookie of the Year special edition figurine released last year (see that here) featured is the first Dodger named by Import Dragon to be a part of their 2018 set -- Cody Bellinger. The six inch figurine shows him in his home-whites and can be pre-ordered right now (via Clark Toys). It's expected delivery date is in June. Go here for a checklist.
