Blog Kiosk: 10/6/2017 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Can you just feel the intensity in that team meeting above? These guys are focused and prepared to take on the Diamondbacks, and I, for one, can't wait for Clayton Kershaw's first pitch to cross the plate tonight.

The above photo via @Dodgers/Jon SooHoo on twitter. Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers History: In 1963 the Dodgers completed their sweep of the NY Yankees in the World Series for their third championship in franchise history.  Sandy Koufax got the win and complete game in the 2-1 victory.  In 1965 Sandy Koufax sat out his scheduled start in the World Series against the Twins due to Yom Kippur. Watch a short video about it hereDon Drysdale pitched instead and lost mightily, 8-2. He remarked after the game:
"Hey, skip, bet you wish I was Jewish today, too."
“It was clear that Alex earned the opportunity to start a playoff game,” Roberts said.
  • I just thought I'd throw this out there. Per Joel Sherman at the New York Post; "Did Diamondbacks try to pull off Red Sox-style espionage?"
In a picture obtained by The Post that MLB has seen, Prieto is shown wearing what appears to be an electronic watch three weeks after Commissioner Rob Manfred sanctioned the Red Sox for having personnel wearing such a watch in games against the Yankees. Prieto, a former major league pitcher, has been a coach/interpreter for the Diamondbacks the past three years.

  • This weeks 2017 Topps Throwback Thursday online exclusive set featured all eight playoff bound teams on a 1975 Topps Baseball card design (using floating heads!). Check out the Dodger card on the right. Go here to check it out and order.
  • Here's an interesting report from a noted collector named Peter J. Nash (yes, that Nash - the former rapper of 3rd Base who has had his own problems in the memorabilia field) claiming that many of the internal Dodgers documents sold over the past few decades were stolen out of the Dodgers own archives. He doesn't provide any actual proof - just a lot of innuendo and suspicion. That being said, he does mention something that fascinates me.
For several decades rumors and unverified stories have circulated throughout the hobby stating that the Los Angeles Dodger organization retained an archive of the Brooklyn Dodger team files ever since the club moved west in 1958.  Last month, Hauls of Shame contacted Dodger team historian, Mark Langill, to ask for the scope and contents of the team document archive.  Langill responded, “We do not have a comment on the archives at this time. It is currently being processed by Heritage Werks.”
Huh? Heritage Werks? I'd love to know more about this digitized archive, and will fans have an opportunity to access this? I think it would be fun to check this stuff out. BTW, on the right is a scan of an article, via Hauls of Shame, about Heritage Werks and the work they've done for the Dodgers and LA Kings.
  • It is little annoying that we're already seeing previews for 2018 Baseball cards. Blowout Buzz shares a very early preview of Topps 2018 Opening Day set; including a pic of a Clayton Kershaw base card seen on the right. Go here to see more. This set is scheduled to be released on March 14, 2018.
  • Per Erin Edwards at Dodger Insider; "LADF: Fourth annual run raises more than $400,000."
  • Per Matthew Moreno at Dodger Blue; "Cody Bellinger Signs Partnership With Sports Nutrition Company MET-Rx."
Bellinger, a self-described “thin, skinny guy,” began using MET-Rx products this season. He’s particularly fond of the bars. “I was looking for something to help me stay healthy and keep my weight,” Bellinger told
“I’m glad I did it, they really helped me take training and nutrition to the next level. In the pursuit of a championship and beyond, I’m determined to take my performance, on and off the field, to the next level. I’m confident that MET-Rx and their great lineup of sports nutrition products is the perfect partner to help me do just that.”
