Blog Kiosk: 7/10/2020 - Dodgers Links & News - Some Odds and Ends

They say he's locked and loaded for the season.

I recently participated in a roto-league draft and made sure to get Corey Seager. This is his first season back, after a disastrous 2018, so I am expecting big things from him.

  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1953 the Dodgers collectively hit a home run in 24 consecutive ballgames. This day's homer was hit by Roy Campanella against Giants pitcher Sal "The Barber" Maglie. Unfortunately, that would be the only run Brooklyn scores. They would lose 6-1. In 1971 the Dodgers signed future Hall of Fame reliever Hoyt Wilhelm. He would retire a year later at the age of 49. As a Dodger he got into 25 games, recorded four saves, a 1.047 WHIP and an 3.14 ERA. Not too bad for a guy in his middle-ages.

  • This is what I like to hear. Folks forget that before his injury Seager was one of the top-3 shortstops in the game, and was arguably better than Lindor. He's 100% now and I suspect he's ready to reclaim his standing. Via a tweet from Alanna Rizzo:

  • Via an AP Report at ESPN -- "Dodgers' Cody Bellinger ready for 'once-in-a-lifetime' season."
"Everything is going to be so weird this year. It's going to be fun," he said Thursday on a video conference call. "It could be a once-in-a-lifetime thing, so I'm just taking advantage of what we got."
...
"I don't think it's a hassle to wear a mask," he said. "If your breath stinks, it sucks. But it just means you brush your teeth a little more."
  • Via an AP Report at Journal Inquirer -- "Hebron's Pollock, a new dad, not in Dodgers camp: Had voiced reservations about playing after daughter's birth."
Pollock’s wife gave birth to a girl three months prematurely in May.
“If there’s any chance of putting her at risk, it gets to be a difficult decision,” Pollock told SportsNetLA, the team’s TV network, last month, about returning to play this season amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Bobby Miller:
“Marty Lamb, our area scout, did a tremendous job identifying [Miller],” Fitzpatrick said. “We believed in the adjustments he made from a delivery standpoint, from a command standpoint and how he improved his breaking ball and changeup. We felt great about the direction and steps he took early on in the season.”
“The college pitching demographic overall, you generally look at those guys as being a bit more polished,” Fitzpatrick said. “I think the stuff that Bobby has in particular definitely has a chance to be impactful rather quickly.”
Of the 66 positive tests, 58 were players and eight were staff members. There was at least one positive test on 27 different teams.
