2019 Topps Series 1 Baseball - Inserts Galore, Part One

Now that you've seen the Dodger base cards, here are several of the inserts you can find in packs. First, I thought I would share the handful of Dodgers found in Topps' 2019 Silver Pack 1984 Chrome promotion. Available at local hobby stores or online hobby retailers, you will receive a silver pack of four cards for each hobby box purchased. A jumbo hobby box should get you two silver packs. 2019 Topps Series 1 Baseball Is Now Out - All the Dodgers Base Cards & Variations

Guess what officially hits stores today?

That's right, it is Topps Baseball Card Day, and as always it officially ushers in the 2019 season by officially releasing their flagship card set - the 2019 Series 1 brand.

There are 13 Dodger cards in Series 1; including a card of Dodger Stadium and a checklist featuring a Dodger celebration. BTW, there is a Yasiel Puig card here, as well. So, fans can still find him in Dodger Blue on cardboard. Go here for a complete checklist.

I've also included pics of the three four five known Dodger variation cards below. Should more pop up I will certainly update this post.

Blog Kiosk: 9/19/2018 - Dodgers Links - Walkoff Magic!

Thrilling!

It makes sense that on the 12th anniversary of the Dodgers' four-consecutive-homer/walkoff game would feature a walk-off victory in extras. Last night the oft-struggling Chris Taylor took out his big-stick and walloped a hanging breaking ball into the left field stands. Per Doug Padilla at MLB.com:

"I knew I got the barrel to it and had a petty good feeling it was going," Taylor said. "But I wanted to make sure. I was running kind of hard." 

Taylor has not been as solid at the plate like last season, but he sure has had his moments. Per Rowan Kavner at Dodger Insider:

“There have been a lot of ups and downs. Kind of been a bit of a grind,” Taylor said of his year. “I think I’m speaking for a lot of guys on our team. This game humbles you very fast. It’s moments like this that you really have to take in and enjoy. But we’ve got another one tomorrow, so you have to have a short memory and enjoy it when it comes along.”

• This Day in Dodgers History: In 2000 a Dodger fan, in addition to other court-ordered restrictions, pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of causing a disturbance at a sporting event, and has been banned from attending home games in Los Angeles for 18 months. The irate patron during a May 30th game threw coffee in the face of a Mets fan who was cheering a grand slam hit by New York's catcher Todd Pratt. In 2014 Clayton Kershaw won his 20th game of the season for the second time in his career. He is the first Dodger pitcher to win 20 game twice since Claude Osteen in 1969 and 1972.

I prefer goofy pics of Kershaw over photos of last nights little brawl. I will add this, why is it the Giants that always starts this crap? Why couldn't that catcher just mind his own business? It should come as no surprise that Mr. "Don't Look at Me" started that game.

"When I missed the pitch, I knew that was the best pitch Watson was going to throw me, so I was a little upset," Puig said. "[Hundley] told me to stop complaining and get back into the box, and when I got into his face he told me to also get out of his face, so that's when I got upset."

"It doesn't happen with other teams, and it doesn't seem to happen when we're in San Francisco," Puig said. "It usually seems to happen when we're here, and I'm not going to let them act like that in our house."

I might suggest that the Giants strategy to get under Puig's skin is deliberate. Bochy is a crafty SOB.

• This Day in Dodgers History: In 1926 a daffy play happened to the daffiest of Brooklyn ballplayers. Outfielder Babe Herman, in the seventh inning and the bases loaded, hit a double off the right field wall and attempted to stretch it to a triple. Unbeknownst to him, two runners ahead of him failed to advance beyond third base. So, he cruised into third while two other Dodgers were standing there. Per the rules, the lead runner is entitled to the base, so Herman and the man who was on first (Chick Fewster) were called out. So, Herman doubled into a double play.
