Javy Guerra Appearance at Viva Los Dodgers

It has just been announced that rookie relief pitcher Javy Guerra will be signing for fans this coming Sunday at Viva Los Dodgers, along with former Dodger Lee Lacy. Of special note, he specifically asked to be part of the event. Here are the particulars:
Dodger relief pitcher Javy Guerra will meet and sign autographs for fans starting at 11:30 a.m. The 25-year-old rookie has been a key contributor to the Dodger bullpen this season, going 2-0 with a 1.63 ERA and successfully converting all 10 of his save opportunities. As of late, he has fired 10.1 consecutive scoreless innings over his last 11 appearances since July 8. Guerra is the son of Mexican immigrants and a Texas native. He requested to appear at “Viva Los Dodgers Day” to meet fans and experience firsthand the Dodgers’ event that celebrates Latino culture in Los Angeles.

A Full Field View of Ebbets

Here is a great vintage photograph taken from the upper deck seats behind home plate at Ebbets Field during a World Series Game against the Yankees in 1955. You can just about see the entire field and stadium. What I didn't realize was how much room there was in foul territory.

I had originally planned to post this on Sunday, but found myself busy on other things. Namely, a wedding for a good friend of mine. Just Another Jackie to Chase

As if I don't already have enough on my wantlist, Topps recently unveiled a new Jackie Robinson card that can be found in the 2011 Topps Series 2 boxes. It is redemption #3 and is suppose to be available at your local hobby store with the submission of the below redemption card at participating stores.

Honoring Duke Snider

This coming Tuesday is a special day for the Dodgers. They will be celebrating the life and career of Hall of Famer Duke Snider during Tuesday game against the Phillies.
  • There will be a special pregame ceremony honoring the Duke of Flatbush.
    Snider’s wife Bev, four children, Kevin, Kurt, Pam and Dawna, several grandchildren and other family members will all be on hand at the game and will participate in the pre-game ceremonies.
  • Special presentations will be made throughout the game.
  • Fans in attendance will receive a Duke Snider Bobblehead. See it below.
  • Duke's Hall of Fame plaque from Cooperstown will be on display and available for fans to take photos with.
    Duke Snider’s Hall of Fame plaque will be displayed on the field at the bottom of Field level aisle 27, just down the third base line from the Dodger dugout, from 5:10 – 6:30 p.m. for fans to pose for photographs. After the start of the game, the plaque will be displayed in the club level memorabilia concourse as part of a special Duke Snider exhibit.
