Rockies Series Starts on Thursday - Autograph Opportunities, Stadium Giveaways, Pregame Info and Other Stuff!


The last homestand of the 2016 regular season starts on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies.   Below are some odds and ends for this upcoming homestand.

The twelfth 2016 issue of the new Dodger Insider magazine, featuring Vin Scully on the cover, will be available at Dodger Stadium.  (see it on the left).  The 96-page September 19-25 issue of Dodger Insider magazine is devoted entirely to Vin Scully, in honor of the Hall of Famer’s final homestand with the Dodgers after 67 seasons.  The Dodgers merged their previously separate Playbill and Dodger Insider magazines into one publication with a new edition available each homestand.  They are distributed at auto gates (one per vehicle) and via Fan Services for those who use alternate transportation.

Thursday's game starts at 7:10 PM.  Auto gates open at 4:40 PM, and stadium gates open at 5:10 PM.  The first 40,000 fans in attendance will receive a Tommy Lasorda Dodger Retired Number pin.  See it on the right.

American comic-book writer and former president and chairman of Marvel Comics, Stan Lee, will throw the ceremonial first pitch.

  • The Military Hero of the Game is World War II veteran U.S. Navy Petty Officer First Class Ernest Thompson of Los Angeles. Thompson, a plank-owner of the USS Missouri, witnessed the end of World War II while aboard the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945. Prior to World War II, he served aboard the USS Tennessee, where he played on their baseball team from 1937-1940. Thompson was recently honored by chief selects of the Navy Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Center at his home, which was captured in a video that went viral. He will be joined at Dodger Stadium by his family and members of the U.S. Navy Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Center and Battleship IOWA
  • The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) conducts silent auctions throughout the season featuring signed pieces of memorabilia from Dodger players, coaches and alumni. Auctions take place behind the Vin Scully press box on the club level. The items for auction tomorrow include a Dave Roberts autographed jersey, a Joe Torre autographed photo and a Chase Utley autographed baseball. More than 25 items will be up for bid.

Friday, September 23rd at 7:20 PM

Friday's game starts at 7:10 PM.  Auto gates open at 4:10 PM, and stadium gates open at 4:40 PM.  Today is Vin Scully Appreciation Night and the start of Vin Scully Weekend. It will include an on-field ceremony with very special guests, opportunities for fans to thank and pay tribute to Scully and the unveiling of the top two Vin Scully calls of all time (as chosen by fan vote).  The first 50,000 fans will also receive a Vin Scully letter of dedication to fans upon entering the stadium.

DJ Sean will provide entertainment in the right-field plaza and a flash tattoo artist will be in the left-field plaza Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Pregame ceremonies honoring Vin Scully begin at 6:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early. The ceremony will begin with a video tribute narrated by Bob Costas followed by an on-field celebration of Scully’s career emceed by Dodger broadcaster Charley Steiner. Special guests scheduled to make remarks include: Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Costner, Hall of Famer Jaime Jarrín, Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, Dodger Chairman Mark Walter and Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax. Scully will be joined on field by his wife, Sandra.  A special arrangement of the national anthem will be performed by members of the renowned Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by a great friend of Scully and five-time Academy Award winner, John Williams.  Scully’s tribute Friday will be broadcast live on AM 570 KLAC and televised live on KTLA, SportsNetLA and on SportsNetLA’s Spanish-language telecast.

It is also Friday Night Fireworks, so fans will be able to go down onto the field after the game to watch the spectacle. The night's theme will be Vin Scully's Best Calls.  Go here for more information on Friday Night Fireworks.
  • The Military Hero of the Game is U.S. Navy Master Chief Phillip Rockwell of Oxnard. Rockwell entered the Navy in 1996. After completing Radioman “A” school in San Diego and an assignment in Diego Garcia, BIOT, he deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Southern Watch. Rockwell transitioned to the reserve component in 2005, and was assigned to HQ, US Pacific Command. In 2007, he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, and in 2012 he completed an 18-month active duty with Joint Interagency Task Force West. Immediately following this tour, he mobilized and deployed to Djibouti, Africa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. 
  • The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) conducts silent auctions throughout the season featuring signed pieces of memorabilia from Dodger players, coaches and alumni. Auctions take place behind the Vin Scully press box on the club level. The items for auction Friday include an Andre Ethier autographed jersey, a Clayton Kershaw autographed photo and a José De León autographed baseball. More than 25 items will be up for bid.

Saturday, September 24th at 6:10 PM

Saturday's game starts at 6:10 PM.  Auto gates open at 2:10 PM, and stadium gates open at 3:40 PM.  The first 40,000 fans in attendance will receive an Vin Scully Limited Edition Commemorative Bronze Coin.  See it on the left. This unique coin is delivered in a protective flip pouch with a certificate and will be individually numbered.

It is Hispanic Heritage Night at Dodger Stadium.  Folks who ordered a special ticket package will get an exclusive Hispanic Heritage Night t-shirt with Fernando Valenzuela's name on the reverse.  See that on the right.  If not already sold out go here for information.

This Saturday is also La Gran Fiesta starting at 2:10 PM to 6:00 PM at the historic 76 station in the stadium parking lot. Auto gates open and La Gran Fiesta begins at 2:10 p.m.  La Gran Fiesta Viva Los Dodgers will feature autographs with broadcasters and current and former players including Jesse Chavez, José De León, Jaime Jarrín, Julio Urías and Fernando Valenzuela.  It will include performances by Jungle Fire and El Conjunto Nueva Ola, Cuba Swift Salsa Dancers and Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jóse Hernàndez.  Go here or here for more information.

Also in celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, prior to Saturday’s game at approximately 5:30 PM, a mariachi performance will take place on the field by Mariachi Sol De Mexico de Jóse Hernàndez, who will also perform the national anthem.

  • The Military Hero of the Game is U.S. Navy Senior Chief Daniel J. Herrera of Oxnard. Herrera enlisted in the Navy in 1998. After completing Engineman “A” school, he was sent to Sasebo, Japan, where he reported onboard the USS Fort McHenry. During his tour, he completed several deployments to Hong Kong, Korea, Australia, Philippines and Guam. His service also included deployments to support Operation Iraqi Freedom 2005-2009. Herrera was selected for assignments with the Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific. He served as Lead Outboard Motor Instructor and was selected as Command Sailor of the Year in 2008. Herrera transitioned to the Navy Reserves in 2009, serving as Leading Chief Petty Officer and currently serves at the Senior Enlisted Leader for Assault Craft Unit One.

Sunday's game starts at 1:10 PM.  Auto gates open at 10:10 AM, and stadium gates open at 10:40 AM.  The first 50,000 fans in attendance will receive a Vin Scully Commemorative Edition of Dodger Insider Magazine.  See it on the right.  This magazine will be distributed at ticket gates entering the stadium.

This is the last home game of the 2016 regular season, and Fan Appreciation Day at Dodger Stadium.  There will be tributes to Vin Scully all game long; in addition to various prize drawings related to Fan Appreciation Day.

Fan Appreciation Day takes places with various giveaways and will also feature tributes to Scully throughout the day as part of Vin Scully Weekend. The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) will auction a Scully autographed baseball with all proceeds going to youth sports, specifically its Dodgers Dreamfields and Dodgers RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) programs. Fans can place bids at www.dodgers.com/auctions and the auction ends Monday, September 26.
  • The Military Hero of the Game is U.S. Army First Sergeant Robert Manzano of Los Angeles. After serving 20 years on active duty, Manzano is now a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer. Manzano held various positions, including infantryman, military police investigator and recruiter. He served two tours in Germany, and deployed to Russia in 1994 and the Ukraine in 1995 as part of the Partnership for Peace. He was stationed in Germany when the Berlin Wall came down. His military awards and decorations include five Army Achievement Medals, six Army Commendation Medals and two National Defense Service Medals. Manzano is a recruiter for the CHP Southern Division (Los Angeles County) Recruitment Unit in Glendale.
