2011 Topps: Even More Dodger Inserts

OK. I promise that this is my last post showing the various Dodger cards within the 2011 Topps set. There are far more I have failed to show, but, frankly, I'm getting bored of looking for them all.

These cards represent retail store exclusives available only at either Target or Walmart. These are Hanger Pack Exclusives. The blue design cards are from Walmart and the Red design cards are found at Target.

#THP14 Andre Ethier

Here is another group of retail exclusive sets that can be found. Again, red background cards are from Target and blue background cards are from Walmart. There is also a Toys 'R Us set (in Purple), but no Dodgers are a part of that set.

A Dodger is the First Diamond Embedded Card

Per Maria at "A Cardboard Problem" we find the very first diamond embedded card to be pulled from 2011 Topps packs. The eBay seller pulled a redemption card, turned it in, and is now trying to sell it online. And, as a certain sign that I believe foreshadows the upcoming season, it is a Dodger- Ted Lilly. Check it out below. Wow!

Let me reiterate, this card has an actual diamond in the card.

2011 Topps: Some More Dodger Inserts

Did I mention that there are a ton of insert sets in this years Topps offering? There are so many to collect it's almost impossible to track them all down. Fortunately, I've been able to find a few more Dodgers to show today.

Below is a very well done insert set using a vintage 19th century design- the 1887 "N184" W. S. Kimball Champions. Both Pee Wee Reese and Clayton Kershaw are including in the 50 card set.

Pee Wee Reese, #KC-43

I really don't like the look of these cards, but since our ace is included I figured I show showcase it here.

Here are a couple Throwback Commemorative Patch cards of Andre Ethier and Clayton Kershaw. I believe these can be found in blaster boxes at you local retail store.

Here are the two Dodgers in the Glove Leather Cards. They are pieces of real leather with the players last name and number embroidered at the center. There are is also a parallel version in black leather. Even more intriguing is a 1 of 1 version that has the players nickname embroidered instead. As far as I know, neither of these rare variations for Kershaw and Ethier have been pulled yet.

Here is the black leather parallel numbered to 99.

2011 Topps: Dodgers Topps 60

I'm finally following up on my previous post from a few weeks back highlighting Dodger cards within this seasons 2011 Topps packs. Check out the base cards here, and "The Lost Cards" here. This time I focus on what I think is the most attractive insert set available. To celebrate Topps 60th Diamond Anniversary they created a set called "Topps 60."

In the base set there are two Dodgers represented. Check them out below.

Andre Ethier, #T60-19

Duke Snider, #T60-44

This insert set also includes even scarcer autograph cards. Examples of the Duke Snider and Andre Ethier cards are below. Apparently, there is a Matt Kemp as well, but I have yet to see one.

Duke Snider
Andre Ethier

Of course, no insert set would would be complete without some relic pieces of game-used materials. Even more Dodgers are included here: Kemp, Garvey and Reese.

Matt Kemp

Steve Garvey

Pee Wee Reese

The best of the bunch is the below Duke Snider combination auto/relic card. They are numbered to only 50.

2011 Topps: Dodger Base Cards

Here are the Dodger base cards within the 2011 Topps Series 1 set. As always various parallel cards exist- from black borders to Diamond. Also of special note are the legends short printed base cards that has a legend share a card number with a current ballplayer. Both Jackie and Campanella are a part of this short printed set.

Ted Lilly, #36

Take note of this particular card below. It is a limited variation that can be hard to spot if not paying attention. On the top left corner is the old-school Topps logo.

Vicente Padilla, #37

Hong-Chih Kuo, #46

Russell Martin, #114
Casey Blake, #158

Andre Ethier, #240
Clayton Kershaw, #275
James Loney, #305

Of all the different parallel cards found in this card set I never imagined myself liking this one. Below is the Diamond variation of Kershaw. Something tells me a complete set of these in pocket-pages would just look glorious.
Here are the Legend short print cards of Dodgers below. The Jackie shares a card number with Desmond Jennings and the Campy shares the card number with former Dodger catching prospect Carlos Santana. It appears the player they share a number with compares favorable with one another. For instance, Ty Cobb shares a card number with Ichiro, Schmidt with ARod, Walter Johnson with Roy Halladay, etc.

Jackie Robinson, #80

Roy Campanella, #209

2011 Topps: The Lost Cards

Before I get to the Dodger base cards in the newly released 2011 Topps Baseball set I thought I would point out a couple of my favorite, so far, cards in it. It features a couple of throwback Cinderella insert cards of a couple of vintage Brooklyn Dodgers.

Both Duke Snider and Roy Campanella have cards in a limited insert set called "60 Years of Topps: The Lost Cards." It is a small set of just 10 cards of which two are Dodgers. All of these cards are fantasy productions of these players on a vintage Topps design that for one reason or another did not include the featured player. Also, each card has a parallel variation. There are two different backs- one with a original reproduction of the vintage back and a modern back describing the card.

Below is Duke Snider on a 1953 Topps design. As you vintage collectors know, there is no Snider in the 1953 Topps set.
One of the variation backs explains why below.
"Because of litigation between Topps and competitor Bowman, six '53 cards were never printed... There is no record of whom they were reserved for; Snider, perhaps, could have been one."
Here is Campanella on a Cinderella 1954 Topps design. He too never got a card from Topps this year. Presumably because of litigation with Bowman- there is a 1954 Bowman Campanella card.
Below are the two different Campanella "The Lost Cards" backs.
