Hyun-Jin Ryu's Superfractor Has Been Found and a Puig Superfractor Update

Following up on last weeks post featuring the Yasiel Puig Superfractor rookie card, I have just learned that the Hyun-Jin Ryu Superfractor card is also available for sale on eBay.  Check it out above.  The auction listing can be found here.

It has a "Buy It Now" price of $1,500.00 with over 2 weeks remaining in the listing.  Compared to the asking price for the Puig card this seems downright reasonable.  On the other hand, this card isn't truly his first Topps card.  He has cards in the Topps flagship Series 2 Baseball card set, as well as, Topps Archives and Topps Museum.

Currently, there are 16 offers on it with 25 collectors watching the auction.  I'm very surprised this has yet to to sell.  There are some monied Ryu collectors out there who, I'm sure, desperately want this "1 of 1" Ryu card.

I have a brief Yasiel Puig Superfractor update.

I was able to get in contact with the owner of the card, and here is what he said:

What went from an offer to buy my son a pack of cards, turned to the purchase of a full jumbo box based on his reminding/convincing me of his lucky picks for me in the past with retail blaster boxes from Target. Truth be told, this box was a bit out of my price range, but it was an opportunity to share something that I love with my Amazing Son!

I was hoping for a Puig but never imagined pulling the superfractor. I am planning on having the card graded and slabbed for its protection.

I'd like to see this card surpass the Strasburg superfractor but am not driven by greed, but base it's value on his limited cards available, his 5 tools, his being in the company of DiMaggio, his playing for the Dodgers in a Huge Market in Los Angeles, and the excitement and joy that he brings to the game day in and day out. No lottery numbers and the money most likely will go to help pay for college, I'm sure.

The auction has since closed, and it appears the owner will have it graded in anticipation of a future sale.  As for what it's worth, I really don't have a clue.

BTW, in case you're wondering what the lottery number mention above is all about... Well, I asked him if he purchased some lottery tickets that afternoon, and whether he could pass the numbers along to me.  I figured it was worth a shot.

The Yasiel Puig Superfractor Rookie Card Has Been Pulled and It's For Sale!

This card probably ranks as the #1 pull of the year.

I was cruising around eBay during lunch and came across this beauty.  Up for sale with a $30,000.00 "Buy It Now" price is the above 2013 Bowman Chrome Mini Superfractor rookie card of Yasiel Puig.  It was pulled out of a Jumbo box just a couple of weeks ago.

Wow!

Someone is about to cash in.

A Superfractor is a seeded parallel card numbered to just one copy of each player in the set.  In this case, they are the Chrome Mini cards that can be found in packs of 2013 Bowman Baseball.  As you can see in the pic below, it is marked as a "1 of 1".  The fronts are super shiny with prismatic embellishments, and they are considered the cream of the crop when it comes to rookie cards.

Past Superfractors have sold for thousands of dollars.  In May of 2010 the Stephen Stasburg 2010 Bowman Chrome Superfractor sold on eBay for $16,403.  Then, that same Strasburg resold soon after at $21,403.  The 2010 Bowman Team USA Bryce Harper Superfractor sold for $12,500 in 2010.  The 2006 Bowman Chrome Superfractor of Clayton Kershaw showed up on eBay in 2012 at a "Buy It Now" price of $17,500, but does not appear to have sold.

There's no telling how high the Puig card can go, but based on the above sales it's clear it'll be in the 5 figures. How much higher is anybody's guess.

A Ryu Topps Rookie Card Error, a Missprint and Huge Autograph Asking Prices

As the Dodgers sink lower into the abyss, I often find some levity in the card hobby that I have grown to love.  Believe me, it's a great departure from the mess we are witnessing with the Dodgers, and anything that takes my attention away for even a second is worth it.

With that in mind, a glaring error has just been discovered on Hyun-Jin Ryu's 2013 Bowman rookie card, and I can't help but laugh at it.  Heck, it's so bad I had to wonder if it was on purpose. 

The mistake was first reported by Dan K at MyKBO fame.  He has become the go to voice on Korean Baseball, and is very active on twitter.  Check him out here and be sure to follow him. Anyway, he posted on his blog the first pic of the error and it's a bit of a doozy.  Then, earlier this morning he tweeted about it.  See it below.

Yeah, how did Topps screw this one up.  As you can see, on the reverse they mention his connection to Korean Baseball throughout, but end up messing up the most prominent mention on the card.  In his statistics line they write in Japanese League instead of Korean League.  Doh'!

And now you're probably wondering, "but Ernest, why would you think this is on purpose?"

Well, it wouldn't be beyond a card manufacturer to artificially create an error card in order to build value, and I guess we'll find out soon if this is the case. 

So, I ask all of you 2013 Bowman collectors, please check out the back of your Ryu cards and let us know if any corrected version exist.  This collector wants to know!

In other Ryu collector news, a printing error has just been revealed on eBay.  Check out the auction here.  As you can see in the pic on the left below, the silver foil that is used for the Bowman logo and the players name is missing.  Somewhere along in the printing process this particular card was not stamped.  This is actually not that unusual, as you'll find examples of this kind of printing error in just about every product and every year since they started using foil printing.

At the moment, the card has not received a bid- even at it's low opening price.

Do I expect this card to be worth a ton?

Heck no!  There is no telling how scarce it may be, and at the end of the day it is really only of interest to a Ryu player collector - a completist.

Last week, I featured a redemption Hyun-Jin Ryu autographed card that would be available in the 2013 Bowman set.  Topps provided a preview pic of what it would look like (see that at the very bottom), but did not provide details about its eventual print size.

Anyway, examples of the "Lucky Redemption 1" have been arriving on eBay, and I thought the current sale and asking prices were worth mentioning.

Only one sale has been completed and it was at a "Buy It Now" value of $499.99.  Furthermore, there are 5 other "Buy It Now" listings ranging in value between $350.00 to $699.99.  That's a big range, eh?

Of great interest, though is a current active auction that started with a low bid price.  There are 6 days remaining in it, and it is already at $102.50 at the time of this posting.  I am wondering at what price it will end up at.  Anyone have any guesses?

Ryu's Other Topps Baseball Cards Are Out

Following up on my post from last week featuring a Hyun-Jin Ryu's Topps autographed insert Baseball card, I now feature the other Ryu cards available in packs of 2013 Bowman.  BTW, I'll have pics of all the other Dodger cards from the set in a day or so.

After a stellar start to the season for the Korean starting pitcher, Hyun-Jin Ryu now has a real rookie card to call his own.  In the 2013 Bowman set he is a part of the normal base set and has two other insert cards.  Below is the base card, and it is number #218.  As always, there are numerous parallels.  In fact, I count 10 different variations (including the normal base card).  Below are examples of 4 of them.

On the top left is the base card, and on the right is the gold border parallel.

On the left below is the Silver Ice parallel, and on the right is the State & Hometown parallel card.

Below is the Top 100 insert card.  A die-cut version exist, as well.  (UPDATE: I've added a pic of the die-cut parallel card)

Check Out Yasiel Puig's First Licensed Baseball Card

The excitement surrounding Cuban sensation Yasiel Puig can not be overstated.  He is slugging his way into the hearts and minds of Dodger fans everywhere - even to the point of hearing loud choruses from fans for his immediate promotion to the big club. 

Will he end up in LA before the season is done?  I dunno.

All I do know is that Topps has just released the very first licensed Baseball cards for him in their 2013 Bowman card set and I have pics to prove it.  As you may know, he has already been put on cardboard (2012 Leaf, 2012 Rize Draft, and 2012 Leaf Metal), but those cards were unlicensed and therefore without the desirable Dodgers team logo.  So, beginning this week we finally have some cards with him wearing Dodger Blue.

In this years 2013 Bowman set he has two different cards.  See them below.  The first card is a Top 100 Prospect insert card.  A die-cut refractor card parallel card exist, as well.

Hyun-Jin Ryu's First Baseball Card Coming Out Soon - Here's a Preview

Ryu has made quite an impression in his first month as a Major Leaguer with the Dodgers.  He's been very effective on the mound despite not having a blazing fastball to lean on.  Ryu mixes his pitches up well and has shown that he belongs.  In fact, it's about time he get his first officially licensed Topps Baseball card.

With that in mind, Topps will be releasing their 2013 Bowman Baseball card set next week, and it will definitely satisfy Dodgers collectors worldwide.  Based on a checklist I saw last week, Hyun-Jin Ryu will have 3 different cards inserted into packs.  There is a base card, a Topps 100 Prospects insert card, and a Chrome Refractor Mini Card. 

Well, today I found out that Topps will also release a 4th card.  It is a very limited "Lucky 5" insert redemption autographed card #1.  See a preview pic of it above.  Lucky fans holding redemption card #1 for the "Lucky 5" bonus card program will receive this card directly from Topps.

Look at the intensity in his eyes.  No doubt he is about to put down one of the 46 ballplayers he's struck out so far this season.
