Pedro Guerrero Votes for Dusty - Rants on Twitter

Oh, boy!

The end of the Baseball season is oftentimes filled with comedy gold.  For instance, we recently witnessed the ranting of former Dodger infielder Ryan Theriot on twitter - who has a well known bias against the saber-geek squad.  Now, we get to bask at the epic screams of everyone's favorite Dominican ex-Dodger from the 1980's, Pedro Guerrero.

As you may know, Pedro has not been shy about sharing his opinions online.  He curses, he hates (on the Giants) and vocally lobbies for a future job as a Major League manager.  (Please, someone hire him!)  Guerrero also keeps tabs on the team that raised him, and this Dodger fan couldn't be more pleased about that.  Check out his twitter feed to see what I mean (here).

Yesterday, he went onto twitter to tell the world what he thinks the Dodgers should do in the clubhouse.  Pedro Guerrero believes they should hire former Dodger outfielder and well-known "killer of pitchers" Dusty Baker.
Man-O-Live!

I think the collective heads of a lot of fans would explode if this happened.

Not only that, he would vocally clash with the Dodgers' front office - considering his views on sabermetrics.
As a fervent Dodger fan, I cannot argue against bringing home any former Dodger.  I was raised to look at the team as family, and continue to feel that way... But, as manager... No way.
"Look at the Eyes!"

Wait... Aren't all the playoff teams sabermetrically-based, to some extent?
Now this is classic Pedro.  Thank you for this.

Blog Kiosk: 10/19/2015 - Dodger Links - Scavuzzo, Greinke and Don Mattingly

Congratulations to Dodger prospect Jacob Scavuzzo for winning the NL title and the overall championship in the AFL Bowman Hitting Challenge in Arizona.  Via Spencer Fordin at MLB.com, "Dodgers' Scavuzzo wins Fall League Hitting Challenge."
"It's a good experience," he said of the AFL. "You get a chance to see the game's best prospects. I'm not really that tired. A lot of guys are complaining about it being a long season, but it's not my first full season. I think I've prepared my body to play well into September or October. I feel great."

“I’m glad I play for Don,” third baseman Justin Turner said. “I would play for Donnie any day of the week. Anything he wanted me to do, anything he asked of me, I’m right there, I’m behind him 100%. I think he’s an unbelievable manager, did an unbelievable job handling everything that goes on both on and off the field with this club, and he’s got my support 100%.”
...
“All three years I’ve been here so far, it’s a different type of job here,” (JP) Howell said. “The expectations are World Series or fail, and that’s throughout the whole season, so he’s done a great job of when it’s not going so well, he’s always cool to be around. He’s never been terrible, even when he’s looking like he might be in trouble in 2013, he was great. He was great to be around. We were in Milwaukee at the time, and he handled that cool as a cucumber, so that’s all we could ask.”
...

“We didn't lose because of Donnie, like everybody says,” (Enrique) Hernandez said. “We lost because we couldn't score runs. Donnie has nothing to do with this. There's no reason Donnie has to be fired.”
  • Former Dodger Ryan Theriot is a troll, via his tweet:

"In '45, I had a good year," Sandlock said. "But the next season, what's his name? The shortstop, [Pee Wee] Reese came back. I had to take the No. 1 off and give it back to him, and I wore No. 4. Reese was a hell of a nice guy, but anyway, in '46 they sent me to Montreal [in the International League]. That's when Jackie Robinson was being brought in. In spring training, Rickey asked me if I would play pepper with Jackie Robinson, that's when you could play pepper [a brisk batting and fielding exercise that has long disappeared from baseball]."
  • ICYMI: head athletic trainer Stan Conte has resigned.  Who knows if this will result in better injury assessments and fewer trips to the DL.  I do know that the spate of hamstring issues over the past few years has been frustrating.  Via a Dodger press release:
“I want to thank the Dodger organization and specifically each and every one of the dedicated medical staff for their support these last nine seasons in Los Angeles,” Conte said in a club release. “My resignation will allow me to focus on my research in baseball injury analytics as I remain committed to determining the causes and effects of various baseball injuries.”
On another note, I wonder is this is just the first shoe to drop.  Who else, if any, from the big club will be asked to go?
  • With the season now over for the Dodgers the Chase Utley suspension appeal has been postponed, via an AP report on ESPN.

Blog Kiosk: 11/6/2014 - Dodger Links - Another Kershaw Magazine Cover and Uribe Wins Defensive Player of the Year Award

Clayton Kershaw will be on the cover of the December 2014 issue of Beckett Baseball magazine, pic above via Chris Olds at Beckett.com.  Also at the link to the left, Chris Olds puts together his list of the Top-5 Kershaw cards to own.

Below are some more links to check out:
  • Via Jon Weisman at Dodger Insider, "Gonzalez, Uribe win Wilson Defensive Player of the Year honors."  Congrats to Uribe.  He deserves the recognition.
  • Mark Saxon at ESPN writes, "How one subtlety could seal A.J. Ellis' fate," and I do not agree with the assessment.  I think it's far too simplistic to believe one skill (pitch-framing) will be the ultimate bellwether for determining Ellis' role or any catchers role with the club.  Certainly, he hasn't been great at it, but I do not feel that it alone will put him in the doghouse.  It's a series of skills behind the dish that determines if a catcher is effective.  With Ellis, I believe he excels in other aspects of the game.  His leadership with the staff, pregame preparation, quarterbacking on the field and pitch-calling are just as important, if not more so, than framing.
  • Via Eric Stephen at True Blue LA, "Dodgers 2015 arbitration projections, Andrew Friedman & 'file and trial.'"
  • Gasparino may also join the Dodgers.  Via a tweet from Padres MLB.com reporter Corey Brock, Gasparino was given permission yesterday to interview with the team:

  • Dustin Nosler at Dodgers Digests takes a closer look at Billy Gasparino.
  • Twitter/social media is so stupid sometimes.  Former Dodger Ryan Theriot said a mean thing about 'Moneyball' and the Dodgers recently hiring Zaidi, so the stat-heads on twitter ran for their pitchforks.  I'm left to wonder, what the heck is wrong with everyone?
  • Via Craig Durham at MLB.com, "Rays, Dodgers prospects make splash Down Under."
Also among the standout performers for Adelaide in the opening weekend were Dodgers prospects Brandon Dixon and Aaron Miller. Dixon, a 22-year-old second baseman from Murrieta, Calif., finished his first weekend of ABL play with five hits, three RBIs and a pair of stolen bases. Miller, a 27-year-old pitcher-turned-outfielder, went 6-for-19 with a home run, four RBIs and two steals. The pair were teammates this past season, playing for the Class A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League, where they combined for 23 home runs and 106 RBIs.

2010 Topps Update: Dodger Base Cards

The final Topps Baseball card product of the 2010 season is out. It is called 2010 Topps Update. Newly signed, traded for, All-Stars and rookie call-ups fill out this set. There are 16 new Dodger cards and one very cool short printed card (see that at the bottom).
There are also a whole bunch of limited insert cards you can find in packs. I'll do my best to post up pics of as many Dodgers as I can muster over the coming days.
This has got to be the best Dodger card of the year. Duke Snider, Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese are carrying a big bat that commemorates their 1952 National League Championship. I wonder if that bat exist somewhere.

    Welcome to the Blue Guys

I was prepared to do some light posting over the weekend when I suddenly found myself pondering a couple of trades Saturday morning that had my mind aflutter. Call it "Dazed and Confused."

Over the weekend we picked up Ted Lilly, Ryan Theriot and Octavio Dotel for a whole bunch of prospects- some pretty good ones. We sent away Blake Dewitt, James McDonald, Andrew Lambo, Kyle Smit and Bret Wallach.

At this moment I am on the fence about the trades. I'm trying the weight the benefits of two months of potential hope against a major regret it could develop into a couple of years from now. Nevertheless, three new Dodger have joined the club and it is only proper to welcome them to the Blue.
